Welcome Committee

There's been so many fresh faces to the Nexus recently, and more than a few of them have been children. Questions about finding a way home, about trying to decide if they want to go home. People wondering what to do now...

There are a few tables set out this morning in the Plaza in front of a small cafe loaded with several caraffes of coffee, breakfast pastries from more than a few different worlds and cultures, and a large pan of eggs and sausage kept warm over a chafing dish. On either end of the table are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery as well as a few welcome pamphlets in a small container. Along the front of the tables is a hand made banner.

"Meet and Greet"

Manning the tables is Katsuya Suou, red apron on and a cup of coffee in hand. He looks far too cheerful for how early in the morning it is.

"Right then, is anyone hungry? Have any questions about the nexus?"

"Maybe it's a seasonal thing? I seem to remember showing up around this time last year. And I don't think I was the only one then either."

Steve gives a thoughtful look around them before giving Iphigenia a slight shrug of his slim shoulders.

"To be honest though? It's the Nexus. I've got no idea."

Hehehe.

What, no Natasha isn't laughing at Vanyel that would be admitting she has feelings above anger and annoyance. But she is smirking pretty hard, looking vaguely amused. It wasn't something she had to deal with, so of course it's funny.

"Those would be the ones. Though most everyone has recovered rather quickly afterwards."

This conversation is giving him a headache. The earth clothes made him sure that he was one of those people who'd seen the movie and were uncomfortably familiar with him because of it, but apparently not.

"Well for someone who doesn't like me and wishes he didn't know me, you seem awfully willing to talk to me."

Han's patience for dealing with this kid is wearing awfully thin. If he doesn't start getting some answers or at least a little less attitude, he's just going to leave. He doesn't need to put up with some teen with a stick up his ass.

[personal profile] dadimrighthere 2016-10-23 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Want to see something entirely too familiar Han? Too bad because now the kid is pointing at him while he speaks up again. It's like he's a sullen version of himself, cribbing his style but not his fashion sense.

"You sat here, Solo. I was minding my own kryffing business before you showed up. I keep wondering what Mom ever saw in you, but to be honest I'm gonna chalk it up to temporary insanity. Just talking to you gives me a headache."

To be fair, he completely earned having food slung back at him. It's regrettable, but not the end of the world if he can't end up getting his clothes clean afterward. He's not especially attached to them for the most part.

Han ducks behind a chair. He didn't leave himself much in the way of ammunition with a half full plate of scrambled eggs. He's got one more handful to go, which he really as to grab for every blob of egg left on the plate and heaves it up into the air.

Not really paying attention to where it goes or aiming at any particular person.

Adam knows her no more than she knows him, and in fact, he doesn't have any one he can trust here besides Vaclav. He tilts his head down and he looks at the empty mug of coffee in front of him, and he then looks back to Natasha with an unreadable look on his face. And the gold eye shields over his eyes don't help make reading him any easier.

"And how do you I'm yours?" He asks her in kind. But if something were to happen and go wrong, Adam has no qualms about jumping in to help defuse the situation. But there is still lots of truth about finding those in this world that he can trust. And without his enemy from home here, or at least as far as he knows it.

"Or anyone's for that matter. Perhaps all of this is a ruse of mine to come and take over the Nexus." His tone is coy and he seems to be playing with her. And it seems that he still doesn't carry himself in the same way as a spy does when it comes to dealing with people.

That's unsettling. It's not that the kid has the stones to put that finger in his face as much as the pose. He ... looks like a scrawny version of him.

"Mom?"

Han blinks. It's not the first time that someone has claimed relation to him before and he is starting to see that resemblance. A brother he never knew about? Maybe he's a Sal-Solo? Han and Thrackan did look a lot alike when they'd meet. But that's not what he's implying ...

He's implying that he shacked up with the kids mother.

"Listen to yourself for a minute, that doesn't make any sense. You're what? Seventeen? Now I got started pretty early, but I wasn't knocking broads up when I was ten."

And then, Han swats the finger away.

"Don't do that again. That's your one warning."

"When I'm in costume." He clarifies. "Not so much when I'm out."

Now, this is more like he envisioned it going when he initially sat down here. Some one-on-one superhero bonding and some sharing of food. This is what a big nexus breakfast should be like. Not to mention, Natasha seems to have good taste in food, so. He trusts her to have equally as good taste in baked goods.

NomNomNom.

"I don't know you very well. We weren't Avengers at the same time. The Black Widow, I know, I guess I mean."

"Oh, I don't um."

Miles whirls around to make sure that Josh is actually talking to him. Not that he couldn't have been, but ... kids that look like Josh aren't usually the ones he hands out with school. His friends are nerdy.

"I don't really drink ..." Would he drink? If he could. He's not really been in a lot of situations where people have offered. He's never really thought about it before.

"But ... yeah, the nexus is pretty crazy."

There isn't any scoffing or sarcasm from the guy when Miles declines. He offers a smile instead, just the bits crooked and a little self conscious.

"That's cool, bro. No pressure or anything like that. Was just offering in case that was your thing."

It's really not cool to force anyone into shit they're not okay with. Kid just seemed a bit hesitant, so Josh thought he'd be friendly and offer. His smile grows just a little bit at Miles turning around to check and see if Josh was addressing him. He never was the most popular kind of guy. Leave that for Mike and Matt. He'd rather be chilling out with his nerdy bro Chris any day.

"Name's Josh, by the way. I wasn't gonna mingle much but you came over to the wallflower table so I thought I'd make an exception."

"Fair enough."

Natasha isn't much for long winded conversation, being more the type to listen to a group and speak up only when she has something worth saying or a quip worth dishing out. Usually to Clint or Rogers. But Barton's not here now, and the only Rogers that is here doesn't know about her. She's gone to lengths to keep it that way, too.

"Sorry if she's kind of a bitch. Occupational hazard." It's a weak attempt at humor, but an attempt nonetheless. Natasha certainly isn't smiling while he helps himself to that last pastelito. "Half as good as your family's after all?"

Rocket stuffs another paw full of eggs into his mouth and he goes to grab hold of Vaclav's three fingered hand. "So we're gonna liberate a whole bunch of these things? Don't look like no military weapon to me." But metal parts to make into things like bombs are always a plus in Rocket's book.

He then looks back to Miles as he swallows his food. "Good point, kid. Or we can always go blastin' through the front door."

"But still, any sc'matics for us to use? Or are we gonna go in blastin'?"

"Most people think of vampires or were-creatures as pieces of fiction, so yeah, it is a very unusual occupation." Sam looks to Stratos with an equally curious look on his face. "I take hunting magical beasts is a common job where you come from."

He looks back to his plate of food that is starting to get cold, and he goes to take another fork full of omelette. "Oh right, dragons."

"Ordinary? I wouldn't call working on violent crimes cases ordinary." Sam knows the type of work isn't the same as it is on TV. Then again, perhaps it is different where Katsuya comes from, and he is living the life of a violent crime TV detective.

Sam eyes his almost finished breakfast and he takes a piece of melon and takes another bite. "I can see how anyone would prefer this to home. That of course depends on what home is." If he knew, Sam is able to relate very much to Katsuya. This is a nice break from anything they have done at home. And with so many friends, they have lost in order to save the billions of people without anyone even noticing it.

And maybe Dean is right. They can use a break. His eyes drift over towards the applications that he has been working on. "So I either take a break, or I do what I can to help out here." But Sam knows a break won't last long for them, and eventually they will be trying to save not only Earth but perhaps even the existence of his own reality.

"But tell me a bit more about the demons of your world."

"What would life be without a little adventure in it?" Jack's smile doesn't fade, and he is enjoying not only what seem to be the endless supply of coffee and sweets, but the company of other people. And perhaps Hughes is about to make one big mistake. And if Jack's smile cannot get any wider, he puts his hand up to his chin. "Man with all of this time, maybe I should work on that book."

"But right, my most fond adventure, I'm not sure where I can even start." Jack sounds completely honest and a little caught off guard. He squints as he rubs his finger against his jaw line. "I'll tell you what, I'll put the whole story time on the shelf for another day." It will give him a great excuse to pay a visit to the Plaza and toss a question out there for the masses. And for him to dig through his lengthy and sometimes fuzzy memory.

"Time Lords are the most ancient race of non-humans in my universe. And they are responsible for the creation of..." Jack leans over and he motions for Hughes to come in a little closer. "...Time travel." He whispers. "And right now my friend is a bit of a fugitive, so we've been hanging out here."

Jack's eyes dart up at the arrival of the newcomer to his table, and greet him with a friendly smile and a nod. "Hey there's nothing wrong with being chased by something that sees you as dinner! And nine out of ten doctors recommend it as a great form of cardio." His tone is jovial and cheeky but it is quick to vanish and he returns to the more serious side of the conversation.

His eyes drift downwards to the cup of coffee, and he nods a thanks to Katsuya. "Like I said, I'll talk to my friend once he comes back about making sure we can keep control of our own portal. And seeing I've done something like this before back on Earth, it shouldn't be too complicated of a process."

The entire place reminds him of how the Cardiff Rift once worked. And of course, it wasn't the only rift to exist in his universe. "You're right, if we're to close one, there is always a chance at another opening up. Time and space can be a fickle beastie who refuses to be tamed. “

"They're a little bit of both," Vaclav is honest when it comes to answering Candela's question about augs. And he looks at Rocket when the raccoon takes hold of his three fingered hand. And he looks a little slighted at the thought that he can't break a nose or two with his augmented hands. "Hey, hey, hey, now I've busted a few faces before with these hands. And I can lift a lot more with them than I ever remember."

He looks to The Doctor and then to Miles as he goes to look for his plate that was taken over by Rocket. He sighs. "I don't have them, no, but I think we shouldn't have any problem with getting some schematics once we get there."

"And maybe some of us should stay back." Koller suggests. "I'm not a hacker or a fighter, and someone will need to give you direction." Vaclav looks between those who are with him, and he gets to his feet. "But Doctor man is right, we should meet somewhere else. If we're going to do this meet me tomorrow at a warehouse in the industrial zone."

"I suppose it'll just forever be a mystery, then--I doubt any other arrivals know anything," she admits, shrugging as well. "There's a lot I still don't know about this place."

She lets her gaze wander for a moment, watching someone get food and coffee.

"We had feasts, back home," Iphigenia says, turning back to Steve. "Grander than this. But this is still lovely."

"Green tea?" she looks at him, curious. "I don't think I've ever had green tea. Perhaps I'll try it."

She smiles and examines the various tea packets.

"I'm still getting used to being here," Katherine admits, choosing a tea and unwrapping it to put in the cup. "Everyone and everything seems so--foreign to me. I don't think that's bad, though."

"No. It's cool of you to ask."

Superheroes don't drink, right? Wait. No. Some of them definitely do. Logan does. Mr. Stark used to - maybe he still does. Most of the ones he seems to like best are the ones who don't drink, though. That probably should tell him something.

"You can have a seat if you want?" The young man even moves his backpack a little to make room for Josh. "I'm Miles. One of the newbs."

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-10-23 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Miles does at least smile at the joke, and since the mask is pulled up to his nose, you can actually tell that he is smiling. In between bites of food that is.

"I think it's one of those things where everybody thinks their nana makes the best version." He says with a thoughtful tilt of his head. That said, by all indications, he seems to be enjoying the pastaleto.

"Tell you what, if you let me know where to find you around here, I'll bring you some leftovers the next time we have them at home. Then we'll be even."

Well then. He should have guessed, but it's difficult for him to really appreciate how large anything outside his own country is.

"Ah, I see." There's a brief hint of a smile. This much he'll acknowledge consciously: "I'm still quite unused to speaking of other nations large enough to be so divided." The Dominion doesn't count, of course. "You'll understand that it's difficult to sum up the known world, but on the whole I think it's a beautiful place, home to all manner of different races and their traditions. All of whom are welcome as Imperial citizens, of course."

He strokes his chin thoughtfully - what on Nirn is worth pointing out as different? "Hmm. From what I understand, we have far less emphasis on electrical gadgetry than Earth. Whereas, of course, magic is relatively commonplace on Tamriel."

He lifts his eyebrows when she mentions her homeland, genuinely curious. There's a place he's heard little of - and that from some interesting people.

"I'm glad that you've found such a pleasant reception. Are you a visitor to the Nexus or a more... long-term resident, if you don't mind my asking?"

"Well, hunting creatures like those is not a task I'd care to hand just any young adventurer, but it is always a necessity. And there are of course groups who specialize in unholy creatures - religious orders, as a rule, but I command a unit within the Legion whose primary task is to combat magical threats."

He pauses, almost smiles ruefully. "Though I can't say we've found a ready solution to the dragons yet."
