Kinner's reciting things he heard Copper say, and before Copper the old Army doctor who'd treated him back when he was closer to this kid's age. What little he knew about medicine came from them though he'd never trust himself with actual medical treatment. He doesn't have the proper training and his hands aren't clean enough for him to be trusted dressing a wound.
Kinner nods on the description of the wounds. He knows about bullet wounds, all right, though not so much about how to treat them. In any case, it sounds like this young man had gotten lucky if the bullet only grazed him.
"It's not as bad as it could be, but there's a good chance you'll need stitches. I'd see a proper doctor, though. I'm just a cook."
