Most superheroes aren't jerks. Alex has watched more than a few superhero movies, and usually superheroes only get jerk-ish when they've had a lot of rough stuff to deal with. He hopes Steve's okay, but he's not sure if he should ask. Sometimes people just want to think it through themselves.
He looks away. "I feel broken. My parents have to do a lot to make sure I'm okay. I feel bad for them." He can be a lot of work. His dad's spent some long nights in the lab figuring out how to make him better, his mom has had to come pick him up from school early, and in summer he feels like a load on them. That they never complain helps, but not a lot. "You don't look like anything would hurt you. You're tough."
The Plaza is weird, but if Alex had his way he'd probably put couches everywhere, too, so he kind of gets it. The Nexus has good taste. He sits down on the oddly plush couch and smiles politely. "I'm Alex. Well, Alexander Seidelmann, but that's too long. Made learning cursive a pain." The struggle is real. "Um, thank you, Steve. You're a nice guy."
