Josh is tired. They all are. It feels good and fulfilling to be given such an important job during all of this, to feel useful and important. But not every day is a good day. They can't afford to wait for him when he's not at his best. So Josh has been trying harder, stretching himself as thin as he can to stay Here and in a mostly stable mindset.
But the cold always brings with it whispers from his past. Hunger always claws at him and reminds him of those long nights trapped in the mines of Blackwood Mountain. This time of year, he's always a bit distant. This year though, he's trying.
And this mission is important.
"Unless you're a lot heavier than you look we should be fine." It doesn't occur to Joshua that he might have said something wrong until he catches Captain Kirk staring at him like he grew a second head. Josh's eyebrows knit in clear confusion before he sucks in a breath and has the decency to flush before taking half a step back. "Sorry. What I mean is, it should be fine. I'll get you in Ms. Battista. An' out again, quick as you like."
