Furiosa gives Natalie a reassuring nod. They had their serious talk earlier, and she’s still touched that the younger woman is willing to trust her and possibly be her student some day. It’s probably for the best that she go with Blaze, though, since she does have less field experience.

When they set off, she is immensely grateful that Blaze is as physically powerful as she looks. Furiosa is the last person to complain about walking conditions, but wading through deep snow is exhausting. Having a track to follow is helpful. She keeps her eyes on the landscape around them as they go, and makes a point of keeping her ears open, as well. The wind obscures a lot of noise, but not everything.

As they move through the streets, Furiosa has an eye to potential ambushes, and if no one else notices the way Blaze selects her route, she sure does. Good. Very good. There’s only so much they can do if there are beings out here determined to attack them, but every step they can take to keep safe is worth the effort.

The contents of the hardware store are just too tempting, though. They can’t stop and look things over; even slowing her stride is a questionable decision of Furiosa’s part, but there’s a pair of boltcutters right there, and grabbing them to carry with her is psychologically necessary. She snags a hammer, too, which gets tucked into her belt, and then she forces herself to ignore anything else appealing.

Natasha’s murmured commentary wins a fleeting grin from her, but she doesn’t make a verbal response, only nods her permission to let the other woman go ahead. As they climb up, Furiosa lingers on the ground to cover them, nodding to Natalie, as well. Technically she’s not in Furiosa’s team, but she’d feel a lot better if she’s the last one on the ground rather than leaving the younger woman to follow.

Once Natalie’s most of the way up the ladder, Furiosa follows, and it’s suddenly evident how her metallic arm is not always a flawless substitute for flesh and blood. She has to hook her middle claw over the icy rungs, which is not as stable a grip as a closed fist, but she makes it up all right, and at a high speed. It just looks a little precarious, and like the way she shifts her weight on her feet with every hitching step up has as much to do with her ability to ascend as anything going on in her upper body. Her method has a lot in common with how she’d operate on the back of a moving rig.

Once on the roof, she does a quick glance to reconnoiter, then has a look at the beacon, buried in snow. That’s going to be fun.

“Better try to clear out the snow first,” she says. And that’s something her metal claws are ideal for. “Azwel, see what you can do with the ice. Natasha, keep watch until we clear it out a little.”

They have Blaze and Natalie and her Pokemon to watch right now, but when they separate, they won’t. Best to get used to that right now and function as a three-person unit.
