Time to spruce up the Nexus - with Fashion!

It feels as if a bazaar is going up in the Plaza today, what with the way a sharply dressed man is toting about tables, bins, and bags stuffed with fabrics, trims, buttons, and other necessities for his trade. It's a one-man-bazaar, but the man doesn't seem at all concerned with what any passersby think of him. There's too many fabrics to put on display and barely enough time to think of the trims!

He 'hmm's and 'no no no's often as he arranges all of his things across the tables he's brought, his head tilting to and fro as he debates the best way to show off his supplies. Once he's satisfied with the table situation, he pulls out a few dress forms from a bin and sets them up with a few examples of his work. These properly arranged and his vanity appeased by the general feel of the entire display, Alex smiles proudly at the setup before turning around and gesturing to the Plaza with arms held high and wide.

"Nexus visitors and residents! Winter's been a dreary time for all of us. Too much gray, cold, and hardship. What do you say to a little something to brighten your outlook? Spring is a time of colors and casting out the old for the new." His smile melts seamlessly into a bright, giddy grin. "How about a new look to ease the transition? I promise my best work to help you along."

The Tailor, dear Nexus, is ready and waiting for your patronage.

She likes it! This is very promising for him being allowed to make her something beautiful with it! Alex smiles brightly and shakes his head at the only issue preventing that from happening.

"Barter is the true currency of a place like the Nexus, my lady. Let me make you something fitting for someone of your beauty and we can worry about any sort of exchange of work or payment later." By the gods, why would he even care about money in a moment like this anyway? This sort of opportunity rarely comes about for him and he'd happily make her something without any reciprocity in a heartbeat.

"Tell me, dear lady, might I ask for your name? I'm Alex Needleworthy, and I'm so very glad to make your acquaintance." He holds out a hand for her to shake, if that's her custom. "Could I also ask for the kind of style you usually wear? Something stylish and sleek in the form of a suit jacket and matching pants or skirt? Or something more formal, like a gown?" He wants to hear all about it and see if he can't make something even remotely as beautiful as she is.

Shameless it is, then. Having failed to garner any sympathy, Thor's next best weapon in his arsenal is to impress the hell out of this irreverent tailor, but he's a few steps behind on that already, and the man already seems fully absorbed in his work such that the full impact of Thor summoning his armor would probably be somewhat lost on him.

Hmm. Well, he can be patient. A man who wears a cape more often than not has to have some sense of drama.

He rolls his eye instead, apparently resigning himself to the fact that he's getting a new outfit, which is sort of what he wanted anyway, wasn't it? He just wasn't expecting to be insulted the entire time. "Temperature's not an issue. The ship's climate control works just fine, and it takes extreme cold or heat to bother me."

Thor can't help but look a little amused at the idea that his bare arms are going to be more inconspicuous than covering them up with sleeves. More than once, he's amused himself by seeing if he can make nearby ladies swoon by flexing in just the right manner to show off his muscles, and sure, it doesn't work every time but often enough. "You're sure that'd be less notable?"

She seems surprised by this, but maybe Alex has a point. Flowers are not usually the first decision made for a wedding, and tulips are often passed over for more traditional flowers like roses. But orange tulips have such significant meaning to her -- and by extension, to Caspar -- that it was easy to decide.

"Um..." That would be a no. She looks up at Caspar again, a softly pleading expression on her face. "I don't really need to decide anything now, right? And there's always the green dress if --"

"Adia. Honey." Caspar lovingly tucks a loose wisp of hair back into her braid. "Trust me. This man is a professional. He can help you with whatever you decide, but you should decide something. It's your wedding, you deserve it."

Adia bites her lip and glances at Alex nervously. Fashion is obviously not something she is comfortable with. She has spent too many years trying to blend in, not trusting her own judgement on what looks good. But if Caspar likes him, then maybe she can put her wedding dress ideas into his capable hands.

"W-well... I think burgundy is a very nice shade on Caspar, so I'm happy with whatever goes with that. I, um... I like flow-y fabrics. Nothing too ornate. It doesn't have to be all white, that's not really a thing where we're from."

Azwel appreciates that--he feels like the floor of a taxicab in Minnesota, and he hates that fact. Startling would be very bad for him.

He leans forward to look at them, and a smile crosses his face. "Oh, I do like these. Brighter colours are... they're something we all need right now, I think."

The idea was impressive enough from the outset, but now that he's seen it in action Alex is even more awed. "That's a handy trick. How'd you come by it?" It might be a bit of a personal question, but seeing as he's about to get real hands-y with Peter... Well, Alex is hardly worried about digging in with how close they're about to get.

"Suppose I can get you to stand still long enough for some measurements?" he asks with a grin. "I'll need them to get a feel for about how much fabric we'll need for this aerodynamic outfit you're looking for."

"That just makes this a more interesting challenge," he says with a wink. No need for Harley to do anymore work than critiquing his designs and submitting herself to measurements. Everything else is his job.

He nods at her preference of darker colors and immediately begins looking over everything on the tables around them. After a moment, he finds a fabric Harley most assuredly touched in her rearranging and offers it to her.

"I notice you tucked this back in with some other darker fabrics. Does that mean this isn't up to your standards? Or were you waiting for the right idea for it to work for you?"

"Fun and flirty seems a perfect way to start spring," he agrees, winking at Loki before scanning over all of the fabrics he has on display. There are so many to choose from, he hardly knows where to begin! "I'm thinking lighter fabrics will be good for you, a nice chiffon or voile over something a little more sturdy. Do you have any color preferences? I'm cautioning you away from floral patterns, but I think most anything else would look lovely on you."

Got him! ...as far as he can anyway, and that's enough for Alex!

"Exactly! We don't have to make anything. And if we don't make anything, there's no trouble at all." Loopholes are great, aren't they? The tailor grins and offers a hand to the teen. "I'm Alex Needleworthy. It's a pleasure to meet you. Now, tell me, what sorts of things do you always want to wear but never actually get the chance to choose for yourself?"

You'll have to excuse Alex while he reaches for a sketchbook once he has both hands free again. He's so excited that he's not going to wait a single second more to get them started now that his new friend is willing to play along with his request.

"Oh no worries, I'm not much of a florals girl." Loki replied, fingers finding the edge of a bolt of silk chiffon, fondling it consideringly. "Pastels might be the way to go. It would be... unexpected with my usual looks."

And that unexpected part was just as much fun as the flirty idea. "I do like where your head's at so far... does my mystery tailor have a name?"

"Adrien Agreste. It's nice to meet you Monsieur Needleworthy." The hand was taken and once again, he'd clearly been taught the proper way to do a handshake. Not too loose, not too tight, not too short and not overly long. Nothing to prove and no nerves to be found.

"As far as things I'd like..." Loopholes are the only way Adrien can get away with anything, and while the implied deception bothered him... it wasn't hurting anything. It was just a design. And the idea of something designed for him, with his input was incredibly enticing to the teen, whose interest was piqued further when the tailor produced his sketchbook. "Something casual? Any events I go to Father's definitely going to notice if I'm not wearing something he made..."

"Something with more color. Father tends to stick with black and white for the most part." Something in his gaze softened slightly, gaze skipping over some of the options. "Merlin blue? I mean... I don't know if you've got Pantone where you're from but it's my favorite color."

It's probably for the best that Alex doesn't reveal how 'adorable' she looks while getting excited over something like a new outfit. It would only cause her to blush, but her attention has shifted from the sketchbook to Alex in confusion.

"An hour? Forgive my skepticism, but the other tailors I've met take weeks to come up with something new, yet alone to put it together." Ah, she's missed the part about magic, eye widening at his offer to start the measurements right here. Frantically, she scans the area around them to make sure no one is watching, before nodding nervously. "S-Sure thing..."

And then he starts touching her gently, in no way inappropriate, but it's been a long time since a male showed her this much attention. Cue the nervous reaction and obvious blushing as she tries not to look at Alex while he takes her measurements, being sure to follow his directions accurately. Once the process is done, she takes a deep breath, managing to relax after those few tense minutes. The redness hasn't left her face, as she stumbles to answer his newest question.

"Medium to long. I've never been a fan of shorter dresses..." She stammers, then immediately begins apologizing for no reason. "I'm sorry if I'm making this difficult by my preferences."

She smiles softly and good naturedly, and hums bemused. "Well., that's quite impressive." She states sincerely and matter of factually.

She then nods and does so, "Certainly. " She murmurs and shifts her weight to her other foot. Her eyebrows go up almost into her hair line..Holy..talk about spoiled for choice..yeah she's definitely gonna have to come back..probably a few times.

She let's out a breath, "phew, um Aye..they do..Though..um perhaps for next time. " She states gently in a polite tone.." Thank ya though..ah..I think maybe something more in a burgundy..solid..um royal sort of red..but it..needs to drape and flow a bit..I have a friend..who either needs his cape mended or..well a new one for day to day..Though the old one has sentimental value ya see." She tries her best to explain.

Loki gives him a small, bitter smile. "Point taken. I'm working on that."

Which is a long story, one he's not going into just now. He's beginning to accept his own nature, but finding it beautiful is something else entirely.

"I want something suited to an androgynous appearance," he says quietly. "Dresslike--something akin to a formal ball gown, but tailored, perhaps, to accentuate shoulders rather than hips. And I would like...a dark base color, I think, so as not to be too gaudy. Midnight blue, maybe. But with the colors of the aurora borealis brought in as accents somewhere around the throat and chest."

Look, hoodies are comfy, and Loki complimented him on that one so Cricket will hear no criticism of it. Best to move on, yes. But button-down shirts are very much what he's used to, and he seems relieved by the suggestion. "I like green best, but I reckon since my eyes are blue that might look okay, too?"

He has no idea how to choose colors for himself, really, but he's pretty striking in black or white, too. The former is less springy, though, and the latter is less practical for work. "I had a nice grey suit over Christmas, but the weather ruined it."

He nods, smile brightening. "Yeah, I got a PINpoint. Gonna need a cost estimate before you start workin'. I have a little money, but I don't wanna overspend and I sure as hell don't wanna cheat you."

"Shush...." She places her hands over his, and winks. "Don't you know the plot of hiding the really good stuff... until you are sure you want to buy it? Just in case anyone else was eyeing it up?"

"Mutation. I have an extra gene. That gives me the abilities of sonic speed." Peter explains. He is quite comfortable with the explanation.

"Oh sure... I have no problems with standing still. At some times."

She peers at them closely, then grins, fingering the grey chiffon. "Oh, I like this one!"

The great thing is, she can change the colour of her metal skin to match it. But she'll do that later, once she's got the finished product. She's very excited to see what he'll come up with.

"Oh, uh... sure," he says. He pulls the crossbody strap to the satchel off over his head and carefully sets it down--it still clinks and clatters. He pulls off the tweed jacket, next, then the plaid shirt. He's a little cold in only the t-shirt, but he puts it out of his mind.

In just the t-shirt and trousers, it's easy to see just how underfed he is, though he's got a bit of a runner's build to him, with long and narrow muscles. He does, as the saying goes, an awful lot of running.

"Okay. Ready."

"Everything I make for you today will be easily washable," he assures Palmer. "I only prescribe hard to handle fabrics for very special occasions. Everyday wear? That deserves the ability to throw it into the wash at the end of the day and have it be clean and ready the next day." It's part of why Alex is avoiding the subject of linen with Palmer. It's a tough fabric, but wrinkles easily. Best not to offer it as an option to someone whose fashion sense includes ripped sleeves.

At the suggestion of green, the tailor nods and begins looking through some of his piles of fabric on the nearest table. "I have a few varieties of denim, actually. Any of these strike your fancy for some new jeans?" He turns and motions to a pile for the other man to look through. "I can match everything else based on the denim color you pick."

Loki's tall enough for his age to stand about as high as the tailor himself, which means giving him a good once over takes a little extra effort for Alex. Not that he minds; Any opportunity for new clothes is one he's eager to take!

He chuckles and grins back at Loki at his question. "I haven't heard of any feasts popping up, but I'm sure they'll happen at some point. The Nexus loves to take splendor to the next level when given half the chance." Or the people do, at least. Someone will find a reason to celebrate and have fun on a grand scale eventually because they always do.

"That's casual for you?" Alex arches an eyebrow at Loki. "Your world must be very different than most I've had clients from, but I'm sure I can come up with something." He falls silent for a moment as he looks over the boy. "Maybe a nice pair of slacks and a few new shirts? Button downs are lovely, but other styles could work, too."

"You live on a ship right now?" That's news Alex wasn't expecting. He arches an eyebrow at Thor and then turns to his tables to start searching out fabrics that will be good for what he has in mind. He's going to need so much of it to cover all of those muscles that are trying to bulge out of that hoodie right now.

That snarky question earns an over-exaggerated eye roll that the tailor repeats when he turns to Thor with an armful of jewel toned cottons and cotton blends. "If I gave you long sleeves, are you sure you wouldn't just roll them up to show off your arms anyway?"

Shots fired! The smaller man doesn't seem at all bothered or impressed by show Thor is trying to put on right now. Not. One. Bit.

As he deposits the fabrics onto a free corner of a nearby table, he waves a hand at the thunder god to get him to come closer. "Whatever the case may be, I'll need your measurements before we can really get started. Now take off the jacket and hoodie so I can get started, please." Another wave of his hand as he digs out a sketchbook from a bin under a table and opens it up. "And your name, if you please. I have to know that before I sew a single stitch."

"Green is off the table for you as much as it is for your husband-to-be," Alex states in a very matter-of-fact tone. No person including orange tulips in their wedding is allowed to wear green the day of, especially when he's going to be dressing them. Or at least one of them.

...let's be real, Alex is already in planning mode the second Adia starts describing some details she'd like included in her dress.

"Yes, a nice chiffon over satin would be lovely on you. Off-white to compliment Caspar's suit, though what variety of off-white depends on the fabric we pick out." The wheels, they are a-turnin'! Alex grins to himself as he touches his chin thoughtfully with a finger while looking Adia over. "A higher waistline would suit you very nice nicely as well. And maybe a touch of color..."

And there he goes picking up his sketchbook, turning to the next blank page, and already starting a sketch of the ideas he's describing. Let it never be said that Alex doesn't go all-in once he gets going on an idea!

"I like your idea of keeping the dress simple, but I'd like to add a little flair to it. Something that makes it you as much as the both of you." He looks up from his sketch to grin at the couple. "How do you feel about beading around the waistline?"

Oh dear, sweet children, you have no idea what kind of excitement you've unleashed.

"Everyone could use a little brightening," he agrees with a smile. This man perhaps more than some of the others he's seen today, but that's neither here nor there. What matters is that they're going to get him into something much more comfortable and appropriate for the season.

Fabrics now approved, Alex sets them aside and grabs a nearby sketchbook in their place. He jots down a few notes at the top of his next blank page and makes space for taking measurements. "Before we get started taking down all your numbers, might I have your name, friend? I much prefer we're on a good foot together before I ask you to remove any clothes so I can make you new ones."

A little joke to lighten the mood. That always helps, right?

Oh thank the gods she's not about to suggest the nearest floral polyester fabric to him. Alex looks relieved to get a suggestion of anything other than something floral patterned. "How about a nice blue?" he suggests. "It'll compliment your skin tone, but also be different than your current colors to draw some extra attention." Because obviously that's what she's looking for with that look on her face.

"Ah, where are my manners?" He chuckles at his own joke, but he doesn't look at all upset about having waited this long to introduce himself. He holds out a hand to his new client with a grin. "I'm Alex Needleworthy and it's a pleasure to meet someone so fashion minded. Might I ask for your name as well, since we'll be working so closely together to make you something perfect?"

Loki grins, and says,

"I can't wait for the feasts, if so."

"Indeed, I've noticed! Midgardians dress very differently. I might even try some Midgardian clothes on, for the first time in my life. Slacks and new shirt? Sounds good. Give me your best for me, I'll try them on! At least one good thing can happen to me today, even if it's not terribly important. Like new clothes, I mean."

He laughs a little, but it doesn't sound quite cheerful.
