Han doesn't entirely realize how disrespectful it is to look at a woman like that. On some level he knows that it's impolite, but in his mind and in the crowds he runs with, it's dismissed as 'a kind of compliment.' Scoundrels. He's spent too many years around them for his own good.

While she hesitates, he finds himself thinking over how he's behaved and wondering what he should have done differently ... because he sort of expects her to turn him down. He actually has to call upon years of playing cards to mask his surprise at her eventual reaction.
