“Ziggy, YOU might be a star, but I’m not... I’m not famous. No matter what you or Mick might say, I haven’t actually earned anything yet. You have! And showing up in a limo...” he tried to better explain what he was feeling. “Um... I don’t want people thinking that I think I’m the next big thing... that I’m something special when I’m not.”
He hoped Ziggy wouldn’t take offense. It was a thoughtful gesture, but it was more attention than Minoru thought he could take. And it felt like the wrong kind of attention, or attention for the wrong reasons. The whole idea of eventually being famous was a hard one to even try to wrap his head around right now. (Which was evident in how he spoke about a Fan Club in the future tense, as if Isamu hadn’t already started cranking out those purple uchiwa.)
“If I’m going to have a Fan Club one day, I want to earn their respect on the course before I ever think of showing off on the red carpet. I want to earn it... even if I have to do it the hard way. I want to feel like I’ve earned it.”
