Fashion has never been an area of expertise for Han — he can tell when something is expensive, most of the time, but he doesn’t know much more about what makes clothing stylish. Even with his untrained eye, he can tell when someone who doesn’t normally wear a cape is wearing one, though. It shows that the kid is probably trying to impress someone. It’s his guess, anyway.
“I wouldn’t hold anything back.” Han says, wondering if this was advice he could bring himself to follow. “Say everything you want to say because it’s better to fall on your face than not to know where you stand.”
Then he shakes his head and realizes that wasn’t really the question. Ben wasn’t asking what to say, he was asking how to make the occasion special. Two different things. His brow wrinkled thoughtfully, while he tried to come out with an answer …
“I’d think you’d have to find a way to make it personal. There’s flowers and candlelight and whatever, but you’re not proving that you know what’s special to them unless you make it personal.”
