To a man of the 23rd century all of this is outdated, but he does his best to acclimate to his surroundings. Plus, outdated doesn't necessarily mean not interesting. People love classic cars and shit and Jim's enthusiasm for engineering means he's always interested in learning new things. Or old things that are new to him.
