The older man does startle her, his soft voice not withstanding and Aki jumps slightly in her seat as he approaches her, too lost in her own train of thought to notice him approaching. Smiling hesitantly, she nods her head in greeting, accepting his words on surface-level for what they are, a comfort offered in all this unfamiliarity. She should be grateful, really, that he's only trying to help and really, she is. Grateful.
