He rolls clear once he's released and heaves himself back to his feet - it takes more effort than he'd like, and it takes him another few moments to get his own breath back, let alone muster up the strength for any kind of follow-up attack. That's probably going to cost him, but it can't be helped; he's almost as exhausted physically as he is magically, at this point.
