This young man certainly does seem well-adjusted, so Jim assumes he's probably been at this for a while. It probably helps that this Nexus is so flexible to accommodate its incredibly diverse population of residents as well as visitors; particularly if, as he said, there are familiar touchstones here and there, like the music.

"I've done my fair share of time travel in my day. New York City in 1930 was one hell of a change from what I was used to, too." Time and age has softened the memories somewhat, old remorse dulled over the years. He's long since accepted that what happened to Edith Keeler was a tragic necessity, to preserve the timeline. There's little point in dwelling on the 'what ifs,' particularly when you already know the answer.
