If there's one thing the Andorian is good at it's paying attention. He's well aware that the captain is a different man around Doctor McCoy for example than he is around the rest of the crew. If Felix's assessment is anything to go by, he must be at least as close to the captain in some regard or another.

Captain Kirk never seems like anything gets to him that isn't purely professional but he's only human. That simply can't be the case.
