They may have only met today, but Thor likes Peter already. He's seen enough of humanity to know how petty and selfish they can be if given the smallest amount of power - Stark's empire was built on exactly that, before his change of heart. But Peter's first thought wasn't personal gain. Or his second thought, for that matter.

And yes, there's part of his ego that adores being an inspiration to young heroes. There's that too.
