Learning to Fend for Yourself

After a brief absence from the Nexus, Hunter has returned. He is still without his magic, as evident by the growth of hair on his head and not being covered by tattoos or piercings. However, Hunter does not have one tattoo, a freshly-created recreation of the rose bush tattoo on his left forearm.

Hunter seems to be deep in thought, as he taps a pencil on a large sketch book with one hand. His other hand is playing with a protection rune hanging from his neck.

"If you had to face a foe that has abilities you do not... how would you prepare yourself?" Something about his question might clue a listener to the fact that this is not hypothetical.

Palmer knows what it's like to face that kind of enemy - one is waiting for him when he leaves the Nexus, and that's a large part of why he's so unwilling to go home.

"Prepare myself?" He shudders, remembering the dog that crept into his room and attacked him. Fighting back hadn't even occurred to him. He'd been an Army mechanic back in the day, but had never actually seen combat. "I don't know about you, hell, I know you won't agree with me. But me? I'd run."

"I have been running..." Hunter answers solemnly. "My enemy still found me."

"Oh." Palmer hopes to whatever God's out there that the dog monster he left behind won't follow him. "That bites. What can they do that you can't?"

[losthunter]

"Magic. I am trying to face a witch." Hunter explains.

[readvondaniken]

"A witch?" Palmer knows he believes in some strange things, but magic is stretching it. Then again, this is the Nexus. He's already met aliens and Norse gods (who are also aliens). "Why is she after you?"

[losthunter]

"I have no idea..." Hunter sighs. "I wish I knew that, so I could figure out why she wants to hurt me."

"Out to get you, huh?" Palmer shakes his head. "Do you have anything that she doesn't?"

[losthunter]

Hunter thinks on that for a moment. "I am not sure. She is a witch. What would I have?"

[readvondaniken]

"Well," Palmer says, "you've got to have some kind of skill that she doesn't have. She ain't invincible. Even something small could help. Maybe she's cocky. Maybe it's easy to make her mad. Everybody's got some kind of weakness."

[losthunter]

"I am just an artist." Hunter starts to think about the other questions.

"Hmmm good points. I wonder what would make her mad."

[readvondaniken]

"An artist, huh? Well, I'm just a mechanic, so I ain't an expert on this magical stuff."

Palmer nods on Hunter's comment. "Here's a tip from me. If someone's mad, they're more likely to do somethin' stupid."

[losthunter]

"A good reason to one trying to keep their temper in line."

[readvondaniken]

Palmer agrees. "Gotta know the kinda things she might use against you, too."

[losthunter]

"That I think she already knows..."

[readvondaniken]

"That ain't good. Is there any way you could trick her?"

[losthunter]

"I am not really good with the whole deceiving thing..."

[readvondaniken]

"You can always get better. There’s an art to it.”

[losthunter]

"It is something to think about..."
