Trick 001
So who would have thought that there was a secret portal behind his dad's old mirror in the secret room? Kaito's seen the PSA video, looked at the pamphlets and if he didn't personally know a witch and chase after a mythical jewel practically every night he'd probably think he'd gone insane. If he's honest he's a little weirded out but he won't show it on his face. Instead, he just wanders through the Plaza looking around and taking in all the sights. He even has the pamphlet out to match up building. It's quite place, this. Color him impressed.
Once the spiky haired teen is mostly satisfied with his exploration he does what any attention seeking magician would do-he sets up shop in the most conspicuous spot he can find and folds out the pamphlet for any passerby's to see.
"Wanna see a trick?" He asks, a slight smirk on his face as he tears the pamphlet to bits and then shows his audience by pulling the pieces apart that he had definitely torn it into pieces. He crumbles the remaining pieces in his hand and then, keeping his fist closed tight tapping on it with his free hand. "One... two... THREE!"
On three there's a burst of confetti and suddenly that pamphlet he'd ripped up is whole again with no traces of having been torn up as evidenced by his holding it up to show off.

Was that real magic or pretend magic?

"I don't have magic powers, if that's what you mean." He admits, starting to fold the brochure up tinier and tinier until it seems to have disappeared altogether. In truth, he just slipped it up his sleeve but for all intents and purposes it's vanished. "Everything I do is sleight-of-hand."

There's some sort of animal tagging along with him, alert and a little wary. It's not his Houndour; he's inherited it, in a sense, from an alternate, but the beast is growing on him. He's highly intelligent. Intelligent enough to know that this Loki is not his original master and still be slightly suspicious of him. But he's following, perfectly at heel.
Pausing in his tracks, he watches the performance with a faint smile and a look in his eyes that's hard to read. Real occult powers he'll recognize at a glance, and in spite of seeing lots of that over the years, he's seen relatively little sleight of hand. He understand the principles of it: dazzle and distract. It's charming to see it done so well here.
The Houndour barks at the burst of confetti and snaps at a few of the pieces that flurry past, reservedly playful. Loki merely applauds, eyes glinting. "Nicely done! A simple trick, but well performed. Is this your vocation?"
no subject
"Yup!" He answers brightly, looking down at the Houndour-he's never seen a dog like that but he's got a soft spot for all animals not just the ones he knows of. "Ever since I was little."
Truth be told he's really not sure exactly how old he'd been when he did his first card trick but he's certain it was around four or five. Speaking of card tricks-with a wave of his wrist there's suddenly a deck of cards in his hand.

The Houndour's tail wags a little, reservedly, and he sits, but does not seek out attention. Loki glances at the Pokemon as if to check on it, then pets it gently, absently, as he speaks again. "By some standards you are yet quite young. But I understand your meaning."
His smile widens at the appearance of cards. "All right. I see where this is going. Show me what you can do, and I'll buy you a drink. How's that?"
It's the Nexus, he can afford to be friendly.
no subject
"Old enough to make it in Vegas if I tried." He offers a shrug as he fans the cards out like a disk. He pulls his hands away so the cards look like they're just floating. A snap of his fingers and the top bursts into flame for just a moment before disappearing and revealing a dove that's flapping it's wings.
Once Kaito turns his palm up though, it moves immediately to his hand.

This is not the type of card trick he expected, and Loki's eyebrows go up. He takes a closer look at the youth and what he's doing, opening his senses to make sure he hasn't missed some sort of "real" magic he's unfamiliar with. If not, he's actually likely to be more impressed. It takes really good sleight of hand to distract a Trickster god.
He folds his arms and tilts his head to watch, for all the world like a prince at a private show. Now he's not just being polite, he's actually interested. "Now, there's one I haven't seen before. Is that a real, living bird?"
no subject
He moves the dove to his shoulder and it nuzzles against his cheek for a moment. "Hermes." He pets the bird on the head. Very suddenly there's another dove on his other shoulder. Where did that one even come from? "And Hera."
no subject
"Hera and Hermes," he murmurs, eyeing the doves. They're sweet. He likes birds. "Charming creatures. Do they live in your pockets, then?"
He doesn't really expect a straight answer to that, don't worry.
Meanwhile the Houndour utters a quiet wuff and sniffs the air. It doesn't seem aggressive, at least, but he's very interested in the scent of birds. Loki crouches a little to scratch behind his ears. "This is Thori."

It's honestly a bit of a disappointment. He approaches and is nearly in range for a conversation when the kid spins round and asks him if he wants to see a trick. It startles Josh but he nods slowly and then the well--the magic happens.
"So like, is that traditional magic? Sleight of hand stuff? Or are we talking real pixie dust godly powers magic here because this is the sort of place where a guy's gotta ask."
no subject
"Sorry, a magician never reveals their secrets." He flashes a grin and the brochure seems to have vanished. He's been at this for years so it's really second nature to be performing while talking and with a wave of his hand it's been placed with a deck of cards.
no subject
Well, that's no fun. Josh folds his arms over his chest and sighs ever so slightly. It's not like the kid did anything Josh hasn't seen before. Or maybe, does he not believe Joshua that real honest to god magic is a thing around here? It would hardly be anyone's fault if the kid didn't.
For worlds that are pretty ordinary the idea of actual magic is a laughably childish fantasy.
"Well careful who you show off to. There's legit witches and wizards running around with all kinds of powers I can't wrap my head around."
no subject
"Yeah, I have a friend back home who's a witch. It's hard to deny magic when you literally get voodoo'd."
no subject
What the fu--okay that's actually kind of impressive. Both of Josh's eyebrows are up now watching the bird scuttle its little feets off of Kaito's hand and onto his shoulder.
"Not your flavor of magic though, seems like. Have you tried to branch out? Try the voodoo for you?"
no subject
"uh... that would be a negative. Akako can keep her black magic, I like mine. More fun to see the look of wonder and surprise on the audience's face rather than fear and terror."
no subject
It greets the magician with a smile, showing sharp teeth, wordlessly asking him for another trick. It was impressed by that one.
Snap! Snap!
no subject
And what would be a good trick to show a plant? He knows several hundred different card tricks, countless tricks involving an appearing dove (which he's a little reluctant to do) he probably shouldn't do anything with fire considering his audience was a plant.
He waves his hand around a handkerchief appears in his left hand. He catches it with his right and pull the fabric back again with his left and suddenly there's a bright and colorful bouquet of flowers in his right hand.
no subject
"Very well done."
no subject
"Thanks!" He smiles brightly. With a small movement of his right hand, he suddenly has a lighter which he uses to set the brochure on fire at the tip. With a harsh shake, the flame and the brochure disappear and leave a white dove. It flutters in the air a moment before landing on the magician's hand.

"CJ... shush..." Hermione tells him.
no subject
But, for the cat, he closes his fist a moment. There's a slight 'pop' and he opens his hand up to reveal a small cotton mouse, tilting his hand and holding only by the string tail.
"Sorry buddy, my doves aren't on the menu."
no subject
"What a generous offer." Hermione takes the cotton mouse. She pulls out a wand from her side, and twirls it over the mouse. Floating it in the air, down to her kneazle. And then with another flick of her wrist, the cotton mouse moves around the floor.
That catches CJ's attention. And he starts to chasing the animated creature.
"How long have you been studying magic?"
no subject
"I don't really remember exactly how long ago it was-but I think I was around four or five when I did my first successful trick." He admits.
no subject
"I remember casting my first spell at age three. My parents hardly knew what to do."
no subject
"The first trick I learned was the classic-" He holds his hand up and snaps before beautiful cream colored rose appears. He has the classic red, but red is for romance and he's not trying to be romantic at the moment. He's saving it for someone special.
no subject
Hermione grins. And waves her wand over his roses, making them grow twice as big in his hands. "The classics are the best."
no subject
How did the human do it? The Abra seems content sniffing Kaito's clothes, looking for a hint, but after a moment, merely decides to keep floating in front of him patiently. Finally, those two claws clap together happily, and a smile creeps onto the Abra's face. It was a good magic trick! Thankfully, the Pokemon knows better than to talk with telepathy just yet, but is more than content examining Kaito, sensing that the teenager won't harm him.
no subject
Then the floating creature claps. of course it did, Kaito may not be as good as his dad was but he's at least second best. Though the ripped newspaper trick is a relatively simple one. He offers a small bow the way any showman should. He holds the brochure up sideways over one hand before giving it a shake. Several flowers seem to fall out of it.
no subject
He likes this magic game a lot!
