Dating Advice for an Absolute Beginner?

Minoru had spent a good part of the day freerunning. With the American Ninja Warrior qualifiers coming up soon back home, he needed all the training he could get. But really, he did parkour because he loved it. It helped him clear his mind.

Usually, it helped him clear his mind. But not today.

He arrived in the plaza, just as frazzled as he left it hours earlier. He slumped down (upside down) on one of the benches.

“I give up! Does anybody know how dating works?!?”

Because Minoru now had a koibito... err... girlfriend... and a first date he wanted to do something really special for. And the absolute beginner had absolutely no idea where to start.

"Those quick feet of yours, darling."

The angel offering a playful smirk as he adjusted his t-shirt a little underneath his black jacket that he often wore. If Minoru wanted advice then Balthazar would try to offer it best he could, even if some of his experiences had been rather chaotic over the years. He'd met men and women and others and well--some things had gone really, really bad while others had gone wonderfully.

"Oh, a limo? How delightful! I haven't been in one of those in such a long time. No doubt travelling in style since that's what rock stars do. To be young again."

He sighed and wondered what sort of place Ziggy had lined up for them both. Probably somewhere nice and smart. A bit of class. Balthazar appreciated class and style because he'd been to his fair share of dive bars and they were no place for a nice romantic dinner together.

"I would start with being calm and collective. Don't try to worry too much about what you might do wrong. Think about what you're good at and don't dwell on your nerves or you'll start tripping up. Just focus on you and Ziggy and enjoy the evening. Most just comes natural really."

"I've never been in a limo either." he shook his head. "It's really exciting! But I'm still nervous too..."

He did his best not to focus on nerves (or most negative emotions, really) most of the time. But no one was perfect.

"Were you nervous on your first date with Jack? Did you do anything special to impress him?"

"A limo? Oh, how posh! Of course you're nervous, its your first date, love. Everyone has a right to be nervous on the first one."

Ah, the first date back on the Chase in New York. It had been quite an eventual afternoon sat atop the high building looking down on the busy traffic below. The angel had brought along food and drink when meeting Jack for the first time.

"Nervous? Not really, no. This being more the fact that I'm an old being at 250 million years or so old. Time makes you wiser as they say. I brought along aphrodisiac foods and lots of booze. This seem to please him."

This was before Balthazar knew Jack was Ziggy's brother and being a half-alien like himself.

A slightly nervous laugh escaped Minoru’s lips. “I keep forgetting how old you guys are compared to me. Even Ziggy’s like 90. Why would any of you be nervous anymore?”

Lop of the million, and the extra zero, and you had Minoru’s age of 25 - an infant compared to angels, but almost comically old among his own kind to be having a first date.

“That does sound nice, though. I’ve seen the view from up there. It’s exhilarating and relaxing all at the same time.”

"Yes, I'm an old man compared to all the youngsters here within the Nexus. Even Ziggy is a young one compared to me. Him and Jack."

Jack being around 120 and Ziggy being 90. So young. As for the date itself? Well, it was full of romance as well as the obvious sexual connotations attached. Knowing Minoru didn't want to hear about the latter, Balthazar would keep it clean.

"It was nice. Jack showed me the rocket launcher he used to shoot down drones and helicopters. Quite impressive actually."

Ministry drones and helicopters. Those were made short work of by Jack who had a skilled eye indeed.

Minoru knew there was probably more than one kind of rocket launcher making an appearance on that date, what with the selection of aphrodisiacs and an idea of what normal people apparently do. (Ask Isamu sometime about the biology of someone he has found good chemistry with.) But he was glad Balthazar left out the specifics.

“I want to do something impressive for Ziggy. Either during the date, or maybe after... got any good ideas?”

Balthazar would leave out the specifics because he knew Minoru wasn't into all the sexual side of relationships, which was fine in the angel's view. Everyone had their opinions and choices. His were just rather lewd and trashfire worthy at times that was all.

"I'm sure you do, love. Don't try too hard. Just be yourself and act natural since that i is why I did what Jack on our first date. We sort of just clicked then and there. You could try a nice bunch of flowers to match Ziggy's red hair or a nice bottle of perfume? That always goes down well with most."

The angel was a romantic and these sort of things would appeal to the singer being that much more feminine than Jack.

Minoru shook his head. “That’s a lot easier said than done.”

In any other circumstance, it probably wouldn’t be. He wasn’t the perfectionist type. He frequently just went with the flow. But this desire to impress his date sort of said a lot about how much he liked Ziggy. And how insecure he was about dating in general.

But he nodded at the ideas. “Okay. Yeah. That could be good. Yeah!”

"Oh, I know it is, love. Believe me, but I do know you can do it. Give it your all."

Ziggy might be a very special date but Balthazar was dating Jack and the two were quite similar in their own ways, even down to the drinking and socialising part. They both liked to joke and spend time with their significant others in romantic ways. Minoru should be in for a real treat.

"Tell me how it goes after won't you?"

The angel winked.

“Okay... okay, yeah. Yeah, I will.” Minoru offered a smile.

He hugged the angel, thanking him for both the advice and the boost of confidence.
