The sun shines brightly down on the fluffy blanket of snow covering one of the Nexus’s many parks. The air is cold enough to freeze one’s breath, and most are bundled up and moving to keep the chill at bay. One such visitor is dressed in Starfleet-issue cold weather gear, a fluffy hood concealing much of her crested head, and in mittened hands she holds a long plastic sled as she hikes to the top of one of the hills overlooking the frozen pond.

At her side walks a tiger-sized reptile, his paws and chest wrapped in warm knitted fabric, though his ugly Christmas sweater is a little out of season this late in January. His long ears are perked forward with interest, however, and once his host seats herself on the sled, he’s quick to join her on it, his whiplike tail hanging off the back as he wraps his forepaws around her shoulders.

And then they’re off, picking up speed as they slide down the hill, the soft shush of snow underneath the sled as they follow the slope down, down, across the snow-covered path and onto the edge of the frozen pond.

“It is not quite like flying,” Chanath says once they’ve come to a stop, gathering up the sled in her hands again.

“Not quite,” Faris agrees, opening his jaw in a K’da smile. “But enjoyable. Do you want to do it again?”

Chanath tilts her head a little. “I think I will find something hot for us to drink, but you may go again if you wish. Here.” She hands the little rope attached to the sled to her symbiont, who wraps his tail around it to pull it up the hill again.

Though his host is departing, that does not mean that he must have his fun in solitude. It is more enjoyable to share such activities with another. “Would you care to join me?” he calls out to passersby.
