(no subject)

It's been a long while since Zexion was dropped unceremoniously into a new place. He was just casually doing some grocery shopping. He'd stepped away from his cart to get some jello and when he turned around...

He was here. Still holding his jello box.

He sighs, dismayed and accepts one of the pamphlets being offered.

"I'm not going to make it home for dinner, am I?"

“I would not say it is impossible, given the readily available means of transport and the irregularity of how time passes from world to world. However… I would classify it as unlikely.”

Isamu studied the newcomer for a moment, impressed by the practical, almost stoic way he had reacted to finding himself in another dimension. Perhaps this wasn't his first rodeo, so to speak.

“I am Isamu, by the way.” He nodded in a short, yet polite bow. “And this is the Nexus.”

“My brother and I relocated here about a year and a half ago, so I could apply for a research grant at the Institute for Research and Interdimensional Studies.” He replied politely. It was evident from his tone of voice that he’d been successful. “I have learned over that time, however, that our situation - choosing and preparing to move here - is rather uncommon. Most, like yourself, appear without warning, trying to make sense of it all.”

Some things were still a mystery, even to those with all the scientific data they could ever want right at their fingertips.

“Biochemist.” He nodded. “With the sub-speciality of neurochemistry.”

His projects he worked on at IRIS ran the gamut - everything from a cross-dimensional survey of extinction events to a paper on anticoagulants in vampire saliva and histamine reactions in humans with sensitivity to mosquito bites. But his personal scientific passions leaned more toward the realm of neurotransmitters, the chemical processes that make the brain work.

“with the amount of interdimensional travel you have done, are you, or perhaps were you, a scholar, yourself?”

“As a bibliophile myself, that is still quite the noble occupation.” He offered the compliment. The Nexus had some truly grand libraries, which Isamu frequented quite often.

“May I ask about the nature of your prior research? And perhaps where on the dimensional planes you have been?”

You smile, nod, and say other dimensions will be other dimensions.

Isamu did have a quizzical look on his face. This individual appeared human, but as he’d learned from living in the Nexus for the past year and a half, looks could often be deceiving. Antheans, Asgardians… they looked very human too, but they were not. Different organs, different functions of organs, it was not beyond the realm of possibility.

“I do not understand how these functions relate to the heart, at least, in my kind.” He admitted. For Isamu, it sounded more like an amygdalohippocampectomy- rather frightening in its own right. “But I believe I should be thankful that the ability to travel between worlds has been solved by technological innovation here.”
