Gambling is a sin
The plaza is never really empty in the Nexus, but it isn't too often that a little flock of people gathers around a certain spot - unless, of course, something interesting is happening there.
And interesting it is! Charlatan really tries his best to provide the colorful mixture of individuals with entertainment, of which more than a half he was sure could see right through that human face he wears like an elaborate mask...though they didn't seem to know his profession, or else they wouldn't be around to watch.
"Come forth, come forth!" he calls out, voice slick and smooth as always when he's trying to get new 'customers', knocking briefly on the table in front of him. It's a simple plastic folding table draped over with crimson fabric to appear more fancy than it is, but what interests the people much more is the trio of cups that are turned over which he continuously pushes, fast enough that it is difficult to discern which one is which.
" One dollar per try! If you can guess in which cup it is after i mixed it, you get two! Who wants to try, who hasn't yet? It's not as easy as it looks~!"
He waves a hand at a passing stranger, grin lighting up enough to reveal small, yet sharp canines.
"What about you, dear passerby? Care to try?"
no subject
But. He always hated the ones framed like they were a game of chance, when really, you can't win no matter how closely you watch. There were plenty of ways to play legitimate games when the odds were still in the dealer's favor.
Han figures he'll walk on by. One scoudrel identifying the other - going his way and leaving the other to his hustle. This guy is really calling out for people to stop pretty fervently, though, and he find himself looking pretty carefully at the set up. The guys sleeves. For any seems he can find in the guy's palming and slight of hand.
(I've been gone for ages havent i. jesus christ)
He seems pretty focused on his current 'guest' in front of him who is confident in guessing what he assumes to be the correct cup - and much to the already-scammed ones' surprise, the guy wins, too, waltzing off happily with his extra dollar. But that light, sharp-toothed smirk on Charlatan's face betrays the oh-so-calculated truth.
If people always lost they would quickly lose interest along with their money, wouldn't they?
Another glance is slid at Han, noticing his scrutinizing gaze and giving another inviting wave. Come and try to find the trick, the gesture seems to say.
He was confident in his abilities to trick even the keenest eye - not that it was exceptionally hard to do that as a god.
There, there. It's alright now.
That and he hasn't yet figured out how this guy is controlling the game. All the usual places he could normally catch an illusionist seem well disguised and it bothers him that he can't find them. Oh does it ever bother him that he can't find them. Xaverri would be so disappointed in him ...
"Three-card monte is classic short con." Han says, with his arms folded and yet, approaching the table anyway. It's stupid. The smartest thing would have been to keep on walking - and he knows that - but Captain Solo always brings a healthy dose of ego with him wherever he goes.
"I guess it would be three-cup monte in this case. Fresh out of credits, though. Fun as it would be to watch you try to clean me out."
A lie. He has money. He just doesn't want to put it up when the odds are very clearly stacked against him.
