The Lure of Learning

Hermione is wandering the Plaza area of the Nexus, with no particular goal in mind. She is closely followed by a large orange cat, who seems to twirl around her ankles just at the right time to avoid being stepped on, but still be close to the young woman in question.

Suddenly, Hermione stops, just outside the grand library and looks up to the immense building with a little bit of awe, a lot of interest, and a glee that is very close to 'kid-in-a-candystore'. But even though every bone in her body wants to go into that library and explore (and get lost in the books), Hermione has paused. A slight confused look on her face.

She finds a place to sit, nearby the library, looking up at the building. The orange cat claims a seat in her lap.

"Would you rather take time to improve your own skills, or teach others to be better people?"

"The one thing I love the most about winter is when the ice gets hard enough to skate on. It has been ages since I skated."

"It always felt like a very special moment, being on the ice."

Hermione smiles. Crookshanks purrs loudly. "He said yes. He is waiting for you."

Yuri gently strokes the cat and scratches behind its ear, a soft smile on his face that people rarely get to see.

"I have a cat at home, too. His full name is Puma Tiger Scorpion, but I call him Potya for short - it's a Russian abbreviation. What's your cat's name?"

Crookshanks purrs even louder, arching his head and back into those scratches.

"His name is Crookshanks." Hermione answers.

"That's a weird name," says the king of naming his cat something weird. "He's really great, though. Have you two been together long?"

Crookshanks bumps his head against Yuri's hand, as if saying that he is proud of his name. He is proud of his name.

"Nearly eight years. He comes and goes as he pleases."

[russianfairy]

"Wow, that's a long time. Cats are the best, aren't they? They always know who to trust." He rubs under Crookshanks chin, enjoying the purr. "How did you first get together?"

"They are the best." Crookshanks purrs louder.

"Well, we were shopping for familiars, when he just showed up. And basically jumped into my arms. He choose me to be his witch. It was pretty special."

Familiars? Witch?? Yuri would have thought she was kidding except he remembers that pretty much anything goes in this Nexus and beside,she doesn't seem like the joking type.

"Okay, a witch? That's pretty damn cool. You can do spells and stuff like that? Is it hard?"

"Yes. I can. And I don't find it difficult. But I have paid attention during all of my classes, to learn how to be good at magic. There are other students who have struggled."
