A reminder to not count your Earths before they've hatched.
It is not unusual to find Adia in the Plaza. She is there frequently enough, sitting in front of a Nexus terminal or fixing herself a cup of coffee. It is not even unusual to find her accompanied by pokémon. This time it's only one, a large bird that stands nearly as tall as she does. It stays close to her seat, keeping a watchful eye for suspicious characters.
What is unusual is the expression on her face.
Adia has come to the Nexus upset before, but this is different. All her nervous energy is gone, replaced with a washed-out, nearly lethargic appearance. She's holding a children's drawing in her hands, staring at it for long seconds before folding it along well-worn creases. She picks at a corner, staring into the distance, then unfolds it and starts the process all over again.
This goes on for several minutes until Bucky, wise bird that he is, gently nudges her with his beak. Coming back to herself, she blinks and looks around, remembering where she is.
"Something... something bad happened back home. A lot of people are... really upset. And losing hope. How do you come back from that?" She looks down at the picture and whispers, "How do you learn to hope again?"

She forces herself to smile -- she hates making anyone worry, especially someone as seemingly carefree as Harley. "Besides, if I can help get the Fleet to a new universe, I'll need to spend more time in the Nexus by default to coordinate everything."

Bucky raises his crest proudly and returns Harley's nod with a quiet chirp. He can't always keep an eye on Adia, he appreciates that she's willing to pick up the slack.
"His name's Bucky. His owner, Steve, was badly injured, so I looked after Bucky and Steve's other two pokémon while he recovered. He's wary of strangers, but I think you've made a good impression on him, not getting into his space."

"He is adorable." Hopefully he doesn't find that offensive.

Adia laughs. "All pokémon are adorable. I'll have to introduce you to Steve's other two pokémon sometime. One of them looks like a little dinosaur. The other one looks like a dog, but she can breathe fire. They're wonderful."
She speaks like a proud parent, and for a moment forgets her troubles. "Steve was hurt very badly... I never gave up hope, and he came back better than ever." She just wishes that her hope would have paid off for Earth, too. But Harley has given her a lot to think about... and a practical suggestion, to boot. Adia is lucky to have her as a new friend.
"I should head back to my ship. I need to start planning what I'm going to say to Commander Adama, when I finally get an audience with him." She pats the other woman's hand. "Thank you for talking to me, Harley."
