Scorched Earth Policies

Blaze tends to treat the Plaza as one stop on her patrol route through the Nexus - and usually the last stop, at that. Today, however, she’s not going anywhere else. She didn’t even stop to repair the burns and blade-marks that mar her white armor before she showed up, and she doesn’t sit now. When her boots hit the paving stones she strides a little way further in and just stands there, metal face locked in a frown. Her tiny silver Ghost materializes beside her shoulder, shell spinning as he studies his troubled Guardian.

"If you found out someone erased part of your history from the records, how would you deal with that?” she blurts out, never one to hold back on her thoughts. Her helm’s gripped in her left hand, and she taps it against her leg uneasily. “You think there are any stories that just shouldn't be remembered?"

"Got rebooted, huh?" Her voice and expression have softened a little. She can sympathize. Oh Light, can she ever. It seems worse for an organic though - less of a clean slate, more of a loss. "Looking to get it back? Or did you find it already?"

He smirks a little, but it's not an amused sort.

"No way to get it back. It's not everything, just one specific thing." A person, actually. "And there's no way to get it back. You could say it's been permanently deleted."

Because that tends to be how things go in his life.

"Sounds like something you didn't want to lose. I'm sorry for that." She's of a mind that things like that aren't to be dwelt on, though. "Our problem here's not that bad. It's not about lost memories, just records. A whole group of people taken out of our City's history."

So... lost memories. Just collective ones. And therefore the kind she feels happy to kick up a fuss about.

He doesn't either, unless someone else brings the issue up, which she did in a way.

"Oh, is that all? Just recreate the documents. Unless those people wanted to be deleted, then they can just create any new life they want. I've done that dozens of times."

Bringing humans along when he travels in time and space and leave them in tricky spots.

"Don't think they had any input. Maybe they didn't care - seems like they severed ties on their end at the same time." Besides, they're a bunch of armor-plated space warriors. Blaze figures they've done just fine out in the wilds.

"Right now I'm more concerned about what it means for our people. Humanity's history is important. It's one of the only things we have left. And it's our job to safeguard it. There's something wrong if our leaders are erasing whole parts of our past. But they must have had some reason to hide it."

The Doctor holds his hands up. Clearly confused now.

"We're going about this backwards. Why don't you start at the beginning, tell me what happened and then I might be able to help."

It's what he does. Help humanity.

"Right. Sorry." She rubs at an antenna, tries to make herself slow down and explain. "I'm a Guardian, one of the warriors who defend humanity on my Earth. We're brothers and sisters in service; we strive to be honorable, just, steadfast. But we..." she gestures at the little bot beside her, "just found out that a whole group of Guardians were erased from the records years ago. No explanation for why. I've never heard of that happening to anyone else, even people who were exiled. It doesn't make sense, and it doesn't sit right with me."

"Oh there are lots of reasons why, though. In my case, I did it because I got too big in the way I protected Earth. To the point that Earth wasn't safe as long as my enemies knew I existed. So if I deleted myself from everyone's histories, then everyone would be safer."

He shrugs. That would be the biggest reason why someone 'good' would delete themselves.

"There's the not so good reasons as well... maybe they weren't as good as you are?"
