"So. Single mum. Used to it. Raising two boys, all has been well for the last twelve years."

She pulls a pack of Rothmans out of the back pocket of her jeans and lights up, a true sign that she's at her wits' end. She never smokes in public. Like....less so than she drinks in public, which is saying a hell of a lot.

"Except now puberty is hitting. Suddenly I'm getting hormones along with the sass. Suddenly my sweet little boys are turning into aggressive little men. Should I douse myself in testosterone to establish dominance? Or should I find a better outlet for my little hellions?"

This marks the first real question Hippolyta Hollister has asked in many, many years. Pay heed.

She makes a little 'jack-off' motion with her right hand, dismissing him as crudely as possible. That's Hips for ya!

Which gets the equally mature response of him sticking out his tongue at her. These two are adults and YET.

"If ejecting them from your property is not viable, then you'd best assert yourself as the position of authority. Less so with the hormones and more with simply making it clear your word is law so long as you are sheltering and feeding them. Appeal to the fact you have lived longer and therefore have greater world experience than they. Children are often self-deluded in the idea they have everything figured out despite barely being more than a whelpling."

Hippolyta might legally be an adult but never call her that to her face.

She sort of snorts at that, and hates to admit that the weirdo sort of has a point.

"You know that great line? The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers? Yeah, basically my kids are of the opinion that I'm kind of worse than Darth Vader. Which I'll cop to! But playing the disciplinarian don't work. Well. It doesn't work with Sammy. Frankie is surprisingly chill in that regard, all things considered."

"I don't know any Darths so the analogy is lost to me. Do not elaborate, I do not care. Moving on," he continues, now stroking his beard thoughtfully, "if the boys withstand discipline and punishment, perhaps instead they must be plied with rewards. Obedience begets boons from Mother Dearest, of what, I suppose that is to your discretion. The one child I had the most long-standing contact with was quite motivated by revenge and magical lessons. Hardly a wonder he made a decent apprentice." Just decent, though. Geoffrey had a mouth on him and thought at times he was smarter than the teacher as he aged. Puberty does indeed breed insurrection!
