when is a question not a question

Hermione has her hands full when she enters the Nexus today. She has a large box in her hands, which has Crookshanks laying on top of it.

"Where do you want to go?" She speaks to the cat softly. He blinks at her a couple of times. Hermione smiles softly, and heads towards the Grand Library. Their favorite place to visit. The same place where they first visited when they entered this area of the Nexus, so many months ago.

She sets down the box gently. Crookshanks closes his eyes, content with the location. He seems to be guarding the box. Or whatever is inside the box.

Hermione doesn't seem to have a question today. She pulls a large book out of her small beaded bag. And gives Crookshanks another fond smile, petting him softly.

Crookshanks seems to be waiting for someone to appear. Who could it be?

"That is why I do enjoy challenges. I want to continue to grow and get stronger."

Hermione nods slightly. "No. Not even here."

He looks at her expression. "Sorry. I've never been good at the distraction thing while sitting."

Yes. It works much better when he can whisk people away in the TARDIS.

"What did you normally do?"

He turns a little sheepish.

"Run. Never really stopped that. Well... until now."

"So you are in that position of not knowing what to do, without following that instinct."

[not_the_question]

"Sort of."

He clenches and unclenches his hand as regeneration energy flows through it.

"More that if I leave here, I know what I'm going back to. And I'm just so tired."

"I am glad you are able to take some time here."

[not_the_question]

"Won't be enough. It's never enough."

He used to say he'd rest when he was dead. Hence his debate about regeneration. But he knows enough to know that saying such would be insensitive given why Hermione and Crookshanks are here.

Hermione pets Crookshanks softly. "You should be allowed to rest. Take your time. Everyone needs that moment."

"Oh yes. It's easy to believe that. Trouble is the thing, though. The universe is full of it and someone's got to do the saving."

And in his universe, it's him more often than not.

"Unfortunately, seems to be the way more often than not."
