Smile when your Heart is Breaking and even though your aching.

Under a shady tree not far from some spot between one of the Cafe's and a announcement, or pin/cork board a black German Sheppard is nudging a pretty descent size cardboard/shipping like box into place. There's a quilt mostly covering the top, The smell of cheese crumpets and some other baked goods waft up from inside. There's a medium size dry erase board and marker hanging from a tack outside. With the question, 'What do you do when your feeling down?, In the Dumps or Melancholy? ' She checks to  make sure it's secure before hoping inside. An ear twitching or eye mite be visible now and again. But mostly she'd curled up feeling emotionally and physically drained, her head pillowed on a lovely blue scarf. She lovingly rubs her check against the soft cashmere.

Which was on of the last gift's she'd gotten from a dear friend and heart brother and a well loved home made plush mouse, in a deerstalker and tweed outfit. She gently gums at an ear perhaps out of habit or thought between  Half heartedly trying to nibble on a snack, and laying a bit listless. Half hoping..she mind see a friendly face or two while the other half doubted anyone would be bothered or care to notice. A part of her trying to hold onto hope another part felt like she was running on fumes. A person could only take so much heartache let alone doing one's best and failing for the most part over and over again.

Adia laughs softly at the gesture, petting Aal between and around her ears. She's gentle, as she is with all creatures. "You're very friendly, aren't you? Sure, I'll sit with you for a while."

Making herself comfortable, she sits down next to the box and continues petting her. She still has no clue that this is her friend, but she's pretty sure that this is no ordinary canine. "I'm sorry you're feeling sad. Did you want to -- er...."

Well, she was going to say 'talk about it', but she's not sure if that's possible. Oh, but the dog must have written on the dry erase board, yes? She wipes her answer clean to make room, then offers the pen to Aal, to see if she'd like to answer.

Adia will continue to pet her so long as she lets her, although she'll take her hand away while she's writing her answer, not wanting to make it harder for her to control the pen. Yep, definitely not a regular dog. She looks at the canine more closely, brow furrowed. Have they met before? Tentatively, she tries to tap into the extrasensory ability that her moon rune grants her. It's almost entirely a passive skill, one she doesn't like to mess with, but she's so very curious, and feels safe enough to try.

Her heart swells in sympathy at both her reply and the way her ears droop. She resumes petting her, this time reassuringly. "I definitely know how that feels," she confesses. "It's terrible... but I bet you help more often than not. You're very sweet."

Adia stares into those luminous golden eyes -- and whether it's the rune, or the way she says her name, or a combination of both -- she blinks and suddenly realizes who she's been talking to this entire time.

"Ash?" She laughs and goes back to petting her friend's head. "Oh, wow, I didn't know it was you at first. I'm sorry." When she's presented with the blanket, she takes it in her hand, briefly confused before realizing what it was being offered for. "Thanks. Just give me a second..."

She spreads it out and sits upon it, making herself more comfortable. Remembering her coffee, she takes a sip, looking over what Ash is writing. "Is it easier for you to write than talk while you're in this form?" she asks. "I don't want to make you have to write everything out if you don't need to."

Adia lets herself be nuzzled without complaint, finding the gesture endearing. Despite being shy by nature, she enjoys physical gestures of affection from friends. "That's me," she says with a soft laugh. "Glad I figured it out. I've never seen you fully shifted before."

The comment on her paw makes Adia smile wryly. "Yeah, unfortunately canines don't have opposable thumbs. Must be annoying." She pets Ash's head again and takes another sip of coffee. Funny that Ash doesn't simply shift back... she blinks and looks over her friend thoughtfully. "Do you feel better when you take this form?" she asks quietly. "Is it comforting?"
chiron_survivor: (I see you)

Adia brushes off the compliment with a soft laugh and a shake of her head, but she keeps a companionable hand on Ash while she explains the choices behind her form. "I was wondering why you look like a dog and not a wolf..." She gently strokes the dark fur. "You're safe here, regardless."

It makes sense to her that Ash would want to appear as non-threatening as possible, especially after her unfortunate attempt at trying to help someone. She doesn't miss how she looks away as if a little ashamed. "I like you whatever form you're in," she says, giving Ash a reassuring smile. "I don't think many people here would bat an eye at a wolf, but that's very kind of you to think of what other people might find most comfortable."

"Oh, okay. I'm familiar with glamours." She knows at least one deity who is especially fond of using them. "It's a good one."

Adia smiles at the comparison to Ash's husband. She has only met him briefly, but he seems like a kind man. "I'm glad to hear it," she says sincerely. She pets Ash behind an ear and sighs softly, nodding in acknowledgement to the rest of her words. "Yeah... it's unfortunate, especially when it's unintentional. I've been spooked by certain people here before, and it wasn't their fault... was that what happened, with the person you tried to help? Are they scared of wolves? Shapeshifters?"

"I like just about all animals, and I always treat them as if they can understand me in the Nexus," Adia explains. Better to be proven wrong and feel a little silly than treat an animal like an animal and make an embarrassing faux pas.

Their mutual cage-wearing 'friend' does not even cross Adia's mind while Ash explains. It's been well over a year since she's seen him, although if they did cross paths again, she'd be reminded to give him a talking-to about his behavior. That's a nearly constant theme with him and his prejudices, anyway. The problem that Ash describes sounds more complicated than that, anyway. She furrows her brow and takes another sip of coffee while she thinks it over.

"They're new to the Nexus?" she guesses. "I always try to help people who are new. This place is so disorienting, even with the pamphlets. I'm sorry they reacted badly... they probably will be better behaved once they're more settled?" She hopes, anyway. It bothers her that Ash was doing a kindness and was spurned in response.
chiron_survivor: (not sure about that)

"I definitely don't pet anything without permission," Adia replies, patting her friend consolingly at the admission. "Snakes don't bother me, but I'm not about to handle one that I don't know." Honestly, she often does better with animals than people, when it comes to being the right combination of cautious and unafraid.

She's unsurprised that Ash would want to help someone new to the Nexus. Although the way she refers to this person -- Sherlock -- it sounds like she knows him, or at least an alternate of him. But the name means nothing to her, as she's never met the detective, or read any of his books. She only has Ash's description of him to go on, which makes him sound like the type who can get into trouble all on his own, without help from the Nexus.

Right now, however, her concern is all on her friend, who is getting more anxious by the minute. "Hey, it's okay. I'll help you find him," she promises, her voice a calm contrast to Ash's pacing. "I don't know what he looks like or anything about him, though. Can you tell me more about him?"

Adia smiles wryly at the warning. "I know. It goes with the territory, for some of them. I'll be careful." Thank goodness Ash likes physical affection no matter her form, or Adia would have been embarrassed about petting her so much behind her ears.

It's a little bit fascinating how much Ash's behavior translates to that of a canine when she's in this form, Adia thinks to herself. "It's all right," she says reassuringly. "I'd be worried, too, from the way you describe him. At least the anti-violence field is working, he should be okay for a little while." So long as he doesn't get in the wrong person's face, anyway.

The physical description is helpful, although without anything more distinct than that, he'd be hard to pick out of a crowd. "Okay. And where did you see him last? In the Plaza?"

"It's easy to fall back on old patterns of behavior when you're afraid," she murmurs, giving her friend another comforting pat. "Although he doesn't sound like the type to admit that. I think most people around here remember what it was like to have stumbled upon the Nexus. Hopefully they'll cut him a little slack."

She's still not happy that Sherlock took out his fear and confusion on Ash, who was only trying to help, but the shapeshifter obviously cares for him, and she's willing to help her friend. At the very least, knowing that he's okay will give her some peace of mind.

The protective half-circle around her is sweet, and Adia smiles briefly. "So he's got a lot going on, then," she murmurs. Not just an abrasive attitude, but possibly some withdrawal symptoms, too. Great. Although when Ash mentions the fact that he can become lost in his own mental constructions, she pales noticeably. "But... he's human, yeah? Not... I mean, he's not..." She trails off and shakes her head, a little embarrassed. "Sorry, it's just... that's a skill some people on my island have. The Cylons. And I can do it now, too, but I've never gotten so lost in it that I couldn't tell reality from my imagination." She takes a deep breath. "They can be incredibly vivid, though... do you think that's why he didn't listen to you? Because he thought you were a hallucination?"

It seems ironic that Sherlock would push away the one person in the Nexus inclined to help him the most, but nobody is at their best when they're lost and scared. "At least he won't be too trusting of the wrong person?" she offers hopefully. There's something to be said for being on the defensive in a new place and not naively accepting help and friendship from just anyone.

Adia smiles at the cheek rub, not minding the way Ash leans into her. "Is that something he says?" she asks in reference to the quote. "He's going to have a hard with that here. Sometimes I feel like nothing's impossible in the Nexus..."

Ash's reassurance relaxes her shoulders. "I don't mind talking about it," she replies. "I just... um, was remembering a similar situation of someone stuck in their mental projection... but you don't think that's why he didn't listen to you?" Her brows furrow while Ash explains, and then she sighs and resumes petting Ash's head, both in comfort and an attempt to prevent her from scuffing at herself again. "Oh, Ash... I'm sorry. I've done that before, too. I'm sure you didn't come on too strong. From the way you describe him, I'm not sure he would have taken offered help from anyone."
