starryeyedangel: (Contemplation)
[personal profile] starryeyedangel
It had taken a few days to get the place ready for visitors. It included inviting Ogilvy up to use the modern equipment and teach him if there were gaps in his knowledge of the technology, though they hadn't broached the idea of computers yet. Astaroth had put up some flyers here and there about the Observatory opening and its need for research assistants and volunteers to help observe the Nexus sky.

True, the angel could fly up into space and see the phenomenon. He had the eyesight to just look into the sky and see the objects at vast distances. However, as an angel of stars and knowledge the scientific method and on the ground research held appeal. It was like an adult playing with child's toys for the sheer joy of the experience, to step back from adulthood and be in awe. That would have been a good metaphor for the reasons this angel was at a telescope.

Astaroth had become enamored with one particular planet that seemed to have a weekly cycle. Much like the Saturn of his own universe but bright blue with methane clouds and streaked with the reds of iron dust. Even the rings, offset, were brilliant hues of green sulfurous materials and red iron with the occasional whites of ice. At over seven foot tall, all these human devices were small, delicate, but he handled them with gentle grace. Blue skin appeared darker than usual in the dim observation room and the shadows thrown by his form were eerie despite the angel not recognizing it. He heard someone in the observation room with him where he stood, stooped and wings closed tightly to peer through the eye piece at the planet.

"You should see this!" he spoke without looking at the person in the room. "Would you like to have a look at the sky? The Nexus has weird stellar phenomenons."
