Spidey's Charity Winter Fair!

Tis the season for giving and gifting, for doing right by your neighbors and strangers alike.

The Nexus is no stranger to parties and gatherings by now. Fliers have been put up--banners are webbed hung up around a sectioned off block of the Plaza inviting all and sundry to come partake in a charity winter fair. Its host zips between tables to help carry anything heavy or to make sure those who need it have access to power. Spider-Man might be a recognizable Hero back home, but here he's dwarfed in size and abilities alike by the powerhouse volunteers who are helping make his idea take shape in reality. Gods, otherworldly individuals of races Spider-Man can't even guess at--but people too.

So many more than Peter could have expected.

Soon one side of the street is awash in seasonal aromas as tables get assembled laden with pies, jams, and drinks ready to be served up to interested guests. Spidey makes sure to drop off a little bag of hand made sweets to one of the volunteers who brought her kids along to make sure they don't get fussy or left out of all the fun. His head spins when he thinks of how much grander this is than just the one or two tables he and Matt discussed when they were talking out plans. It's really happening.

He's quick to jump over to the other side of the street and grab up a snow shovel to clear away space for the spots being set up for entertainment. Every shovel full of snow he clears for a puppet theater can get dumped into a pile beneath a rigged up seat for a dunking booth of sorts. Already curious onlookers point and laugh, their voices carrying in the crisp air eager for the games about to be played.

In the center of the sectioned off block sits their headquarters for the event where tickets can be sold, raffles held, and a table set up for straight donations just next to it. The man behind it is far more calm than the young costumed man who leans up against the table to catch his breath once everything seems to be coming together.

Spidey's hopeful when he looks over his shoulder to ask, "How many folks d'you think are gonna come?"

((OOC: See the OOC Post here if you have any questions about what this event is! We have several coordinators who will be posting their own top level comments for attractions here with subject lines advertising them but all will be linked to beneath this spot for ease of access as they go up! Feel free to mingle, this is a party post so back tagging and threadhopping are allowed. Enjoy!))

Lucifer knew of at least three or four other Lucifers by this point and felt that none of them had many similarities. "Perhaps that is true of your creation, or some other creation. My Father did ask me to be his torturer and cause of suffering but I refused as with all things He has demanded of me which I find distasteful."

There's nothing to his tone but simple explanation. He knows there are many beliefs here and most about him are negative, that was old news. "I doubt I am the most demonic of the Lucifers that might find their way here, but it would be a worthy bet to claim I am the most rebellious."

This time, Matt can't hide the skepticism on his face. Not aggression, not when Lucifer hasn't responded in kind, but this sounds farfetched to a good Catholic boy. He considers this for a moment, judging the possible reactions to his question, before deciding to ask.

As a lawyer would, of course.

"What's your side of the story of Job?"

The question gets a curious look but he's not put off by being questioned. This is an important question to consider for many reasons. His own story was only one line of Lucifer and he had made a point of reading the various versions that existed in the main Library.

"Personally, during the time of Job, if you mean 1600-1400 B.C.E., I was in Greece. You would want to speak to Belial, Mammon, Azazael, and Moloch about the specifics of the region because they were living there in my creation."

However, Lucifer knows that is not a satisfying answer, for himself or Matt. "How the story is to be interpreted depends on the nature of Lucifer, or the existence of God, in a creation. Most of the stories suggest that the Lucifer was under the direction of God to test the faith of the people. A few of the stories suggest that Lucifer had no choice but to inflict the injuries on Job because it was the duty God gave him during his creation. In these situations Lucifer has no choice in his actions because they are ordained by God. It is a common thread in Christianity that Angels are servants, or worse slaves, who must do the Duties of God or be punished. I am not the only angel God has punished for disobedience or refusing to do his bidding."

That was one aspect of the story, a more personal one to the nature of his existence. The next portion is philosophical or theological in nature.

"What is always curious to me about the story of Job is that he withstands the tests of Lucifer and yet his own people tell him he suffers, not because of Lucifer but because he must be a sinner or done evil and angered God. From the human perspective, in the stories, no version of me exists in the experience of Job and his companions." Lucifer sighs. "The other curiosity is the story promotes God as unknowable and his actions as unknowable and yet, God becomes angry with Job's friends for incorrect advice. I have to admit the amount of times it comes up that God claims that humans cannot know him and then seeks to punish said humans for not knowing is significant and quite unfair."

Not that Lucifer expected better behavior from God, any of the Christian manifestations really.
