+1 Doctor

The Doctor arrives in the Nexus.  And he's not sure how he got here.  Not that it matters.  He has no TARDIS and no memories of Clara.  All he has are the clothes on his back, his sonic specks, and his trusty guitar.  Okay, he has a little rucksack filled with a change of clothes and other odds and ends that he's collected on his quest.

He looks around and this place looks... rather American, considering.  Of course, everything looked American to him these days, he's spent far too long in the States looking first for the TARDIS and then for Clara.  He so far has been unsuccessful at both.

"Excuse me, has anyone seen someone called Clara?"

He had noticed that the lad had stepped back. It's a reaction he's used to now. which is why he doesn't seem to care. He adjusts all his belongings that he's carrying so he can offer his hand.

"I'm the Doctor."

He takes a look around.

"Any proper idea where we are?"

Look at him, probably not, but you never know where good information will come from, so repeating questions with different people never hurts.

"Doctor of what?" Because yeah he's used to that only being a title sorry.

"I'm not sure about the name of the place, but it's some sort of crossroads between different worlds." He hopes that makes sense. "And yes, I mean different worlds because I've already met some that aren't from mine, close, but things are a little different."

The Doctor is used to it... But, prefers the 'Doctor who' joke. Oh well.

"Let's see... Last time I was asked that question, I said 'intestinal parasites.'"

Which wouldn't be entirely false, given the stress that 'monsters' put on people.

"Interesting. Usually that only happens in the Gaps. And gaps aren't actual places."

Sorry Damian doesn't think the simple answer first.

"Last time?" He quirks a brow. "You get asked that a lot?"

"Gaps?" Okay this guy may actually be a little interesting. Not that he's going to show it, because really, that had to be breaking some Assassin law or something right?

Everyone likes to think they're special somehow.

"My name is 'Doctor', what do you think?"

There's no bite to the question, it's more stating the obvious than anything.

"Gaps. My species calls it The Void. It's the spaces that exist - or rather don't exist between different universes."

"It's not a title then? Strange." He's not being rude at least.

Species, that caught his attention. "So you're alien. You're not a Kryptonian are you?" Because other than a select few... most that have been to Earth have been war hungry and dangerous. And Damian doesn't happen to have any kryptonite on him. Father's made sure to change the passcodes into the vault after the last time he grabbed some. Even though it had saved his life.

"It's a title too. But mainly it's a name."

He just gives a long look at the kid. (Everyone is a kid to him now.)

"No. I'm a Time Lord."

He'll skip over the 'who's an alien' lecture until later.

"I take it you don't like 'Kryptonians'."

Hey he's from Earth, any being not from Earth is alien to him, not like he means it as an insult... Or at least not intentionally.

"Time Lord? Okay that's a new one." He stores the information away for now.

"And, the majority that I've heard about, have tried to take over Earth. There's a few that are cool though. Dad's friends with one. I haven't talked to the other one that much." He shrugs. "All I know is that the planet doesn't exist anymore. At least according to the news clippings Father has on his computer from interviews with one of the two that now make Earth their home."

"No. Not new. Very, very old."

Time Lords were first... in so many ways. And the way the lad says it...

"I'm the one who protects you lot from those."

Well, one of them, though in his experience, he is the only one.

"I'm not from that planet. Did your research say how it was destroyed?"

Because if it was a casualty of the Time War, the count he kept was very much off.

"I think I would have heard that term before." He states matter of factly.

"I don't remember a Doctor or Time Lord in the Justice League. And pretty sure Superman and the two Green Lanterns assigned to Earth deal with most of the off world stuff.

"According to Superman the planet exploded, he was sent to Earth moments before hand and he's never seen the planet himself." He thought a moment. "I think he said it was because they did something to the core of the planet it's self." He might be wrong, but like hell he'd admit that. Damian never admits he's wrong, unless it's to Father or Grayson...

Riiiiight. He's clearly not in his universe now. Because none of those people are real in his universe. He doesn't know much about popular culture, but what he does know, he knows.

"Not from the Time War, then... Well, small mercies."

At least for the Doctor.

Oh if he knew that they were pop culture elsewhere his mind might break a little.

Only a little.

"Billions died and it's a 'small mercy'?"

"I'm four and a half billion years old. Do you know the one thing that is constant that I've learned in all that time? Everything dies. Everything. It's a small mercy, because that time, billions died and it wasn't connected to war. War is usually how billions die at once."

He sounds... ancient and tired.

And that long speech, actually keeps Damian from mouthing off.

"I'm sorry." The words are low, he can tell he's talking to someone who's lost people close to him. Damian's lost people too, probably not as close, but they were blood. And because of the sides his parents are on, he can't be with his mother anymore, so she may as well be gone too.

He looks at the floor, not sure what else to say.

"It's... fine."

Well, not really fine, but it's nothing to apologise for."

"Unless you've killed billions."

Then the Doctor might have to do something about that.

"... I've killed a few, but My brothers and Father are working with me on that. Mother's... Way of raising me was very unconventional it seems." Hey he was raised an assassin, though he's pretty sure his Grandfather's bodycount might be thousands... who knows.

"You can't help how you were raised until someone teaches you differently. When I said 'billions', I wasn't speaking metaphorically."

Like he said, the kid is fine.

"True," Wait... "You killed billions?"

Okay maybe he should reassess the threat level of this old guy.

"I rebooted the entire universe once."

At least his universe, well his universe prime. The life of a time traveller is a difficult thing.

"Okay... I don't think I even want to know the mechanics of doing that." Because rebooting, all too technical, more Tim's thing less his. He just does the tiny scary bat bit.

The Doctor shrugs.

"It needed to be done. Things were going very wrong. It was either reboot it or let it be destroyed. I think I made the right choice."

Though, sometimes he does wonder.

"What's your version of wrong?" Because he wants to know what kind of person he really is.

"Well, there were these cracks in space and time. And the cracks were absorbing things and people and such. And when that happened, those people and things were completely erased from time and space - their loved ones didn't even know they had ever existed. But sometimes, when there was a very strong bond, those people knew something was missing."

He would say he's not a good man, nor a hero. He just sees trouble happening and has to do something about it.

"The only way to get rid of the cracks at that point was to reboot the entire thing."

He'll just not talk about the part where he sacrificed himself to do it and he's only a live now because Amy Pond remembered him.
