The Doctor arrives in the Nexus.  And he's not sure how he got here.  Not that it matters.  He has no TARDIS and no memories of Clara.  All he has are the clothes on his back, his sonic specks, and his trusty guitar.  Okay, he has a little rucksack filled with a change of clothes and other odds and ends that he's collected on his quest.

He looks around and this place looks... rather American, considering.  Of course, everything looked American to him these days, he's spent far too long in the States looking first for the TARDIS and then for Clara.  He so far has been unsuccessful at both.

"Excuse me, has anyone seen someone called Clara?"

The Doctor smirked a little.

"Let's just say, the relationship you have with your people is similar to the one I have with mine."

He supposes at least he has people now, but sometimes he wonders why he ever saved them.

"Besides, it was their fault that she died and I had to save her to begin with. If I go to them for help, they will just put her back to the moment of her death."

Which would defeat the whole point of saving her.

"Do you now? I'm a bit of a one of a kind when it comes to 'my' people. And the people working the Institute are human. And I never had a chance to develop much of a relationship with them, and perhaps that is a good thing that I hadn't." It is moments like these that he's grateful for his 'brother' freeing him.

But still he thinks he can relate to The Doctor, and he frowns when he hears mention of his people being responsible for the death of his friend. "Good enough reason to avoid them. And maybe you will run into her here. Because this is the perfect place to be if you're looking to hide from people who might want you dead."

"There is always hope."

Except for himself. He never quite worked out how to offer so much hope to everyone else, when he himself doesn't have near as much as he pretends to.

"Homo sapiens are a good species. They get a little misguided sometimes, but they're still young. Time Lords, have no excuse. We're the oldest race in the universe."

Yes, he's still connected to them. Still claims the title.

"Maybe there is, and that's why I'm willing to still call The Commonwealth home."

Nick still is going to hold on to hope for his friend to make a change, but he saw him become a different man from the one he met. A man who saw him and others like him as objects. "Humans are good, but if I were to show you the world they now call home. But that doesn't mean that all of them are horrible, and not capable of change."

"And there needs to be people to help those who are just trying to survive."

The Doctor nods, because, Nick clearly understands.

"A majority of humans are decent enough. Unfortunately, those are usually the quiet ones, being oppressed, rather than those in power."

It's just the way it is sometimes.

"Well... I do what I can. I don't always succeed, but I try."
