Welcome Committee

There's been so many fresh faces to the Nexus recently, and more than a few of them have been children. Questions about finding a way home, about trying to decide if they want to go home. People wondering what to do now...

There are a few tables set out this morning in the Plaza in front of a small cafe loaded with several caraffes of coffee, breakfast pastries from more than a few different worlds and cultures, and a large pan of eggs and sausage kept warm over a chafing dish. On either end of the table are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery as well as a few welcome pamphlets in a small container. Along the front of the tables is a hand made banner.

"Meet and Greet"

Manning the tables is Katsuya Suou, red apron on and a cup of coffee in hand. He looks far too cheerful for how early in the morning it is.

"Right then, is anyone hungry? Have any questions about the nexus?"

((OOC: Feel free to mingle and threadjump in this thread. I'm trying to get people who have yet to meet to interact, so do not feel obligated to only reply to me!))

"We have Halloween where I'm from."

Miles is practically grinning from ear to ear under the mask. He doesn't know what it is about the Sherrif that he finds funny, but something about him. Then again, he's from Brooklyn and the police around there have a different aura about them - especially lately.

"I fight crime." He says simply. "The kind of guys I wouldn't want finding out who I really am."

"You're a costumed crime fighter?" Rosco asks, the question starting puzzled and growing incredulous. "What's your name?"

Rosco doesn't like vigilantes, but shoot! Every kid reads at least a few comics growing up, right? This guy might be a superhero!

He is a superhero! He's got the costume and the superpowers and everything. And he figures, since half of the law enforcement back home sees him as a 'vigilante' he ought to try to have some good vibes with the (soon to be) nexus sheriff. It can't hurt, right?

"I'm Spider-man." He says, trying to make it sound like it's nbd.

Rosco frowns.

"Spiderman? You sound kinda young to me," Rosco tells him, a bit sternly.

(ooc: Is it okay if Rosco mentions the comics in his world?)

"No younger than the last Spider-man when he started."

Miles is trying not to take it personal that the sheriff seems to want to give him a hard time about his age. He's in high school. He's old enough to be driving a car if his parents had one. Next year he could serve in the military.

Makes him wonder what age people seem to need him to be. Not like he had any say on when he got that spider bite ...

[Feel free. The cross universe zaniness is fun to me.]

"The last one?" Rosco asks, a bit puzzled. "I've read about Spiderman in comics. The one I know is Peter Parker, but he started really young."

It's not personal. Rosco is just old-fashioned and starting to be old, himself.

"What's your name? Besides Spiderman."

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-10-31 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, he kinda gets it. He supposes he'd rather people be a little too concerned about him over them not caring at all. At least people are trying to look out for him. Still, Miles is a teenager. So he's inclined to believe he can handle virtually everything life is gonna throw at him.

He blinks at the fact that Rosco knows Peter's identity, but doesn't say anything about it. Yes, there was a Peter Parker where he's from too and yes, he was the first Spider-man. It's just a little bit weird that he just knows that from a comic.

"My name is Miles."

"It's good to meet you, Miles. I'm Rosco," he says. He's old-fashioned, but not terribly formal. Almost everyone in Hazzard calls him by his first name. "You just be careful, if you're gonna go web-slinging around the Nexus. Uh. How did you get Parker's gig? You get bit by a spider, too?"

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-11-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I will, sir."

That's gotta be the right answer. Simple and respectful. The guy just wants him to be safe and Miles can understand that. That's the kind of guy you want to be the lawman around here.

"Oh, well. It's a bit of a long story, but the short version is that they found out about the accident that gave the first spider-man his powers and then, tried to repeat it. It worked."

Rosco gives a satisfied nod at Miles' answer, which turns swiftly to a frown of concern, bordering on anger.

"They didn't kidnap you or anything, did they?"

The thought of some wiseacre experimenting on a teenager is enough to get Rosco ready to fly into an indignant rage on the young fella's behalf.

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-11-12 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"No."

He tries to clear this up right away. Not realizing how he might have made it sound that way till after Rosco starts to get frustrated.

"See, the first time there was this modified spider that gave the last spider-man his power, right? Well, they modified another spider at the lab where my uncle worked and it somehow ended up in his duffle bag ... and I got bit."

No kidnapping Rosco, honest! Just bad or good luck depending on your point of view.

Rosco looks relieved, then shakes his head.

"Well, ain't that the dangedest. Your universe's scientists need to be more careful what they do with their experiments."
