Welcome Committee

There's been so many fresh faces to the Nexus recently, and more than a few of them have been children. Questions about finding a way home, about trying to decide if they want to go home. People wondering what to do now...

There are a few tables set out this morning in the Plaza in front of a small cafe loaded with several caraffes of coffee, breakfast pastries from more than a few different worlds and cultures, and a large pan of eggs and sausage kept warm over a chafing dish. On either end of the table are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery as well as a few welcome pamphlets in a small container. Along the front of the tables is a hand made banner.

"Meet and Greet"

Manning the tables is Katsuya Suou, red apron on and a cup of coffee in hand. He looks far too cheerful for how early in the morning it is.

"Right then, is anyone hungry? Have any questions about the nexus?"

"I'm going to hold you to that," Hughes says over a sip of his coffee. "And I tend to remember everything I'm told, so you better make sure you have it ready for your next visit." Not that Hughes would be upset if Jack wasn't ready, but hey, a grown man who's basically still a kid sometimes can dream.

One of Hughes' eyebrows creeps up toward his hairline at the mention of time travel. "How do you become a fugitive if you could just go back and change what happened that made you a fugitive?" There's some subtlety here that the intelligence officer isn't understanding just yet. Time travel's a subject he doesn't know much about, so he's pretty much pulling at straw trying to figure out how something like Jack is describing could happen.

"Time travel is complicated and there are lots of rules that are in place for a good reason. And one of the big ones is not to cross your timeline. That is if you want to run the risk of creating a paradox." Jack tries his best to explain how it works, and then he goes to the reasons about The Doctor and his problems with the Time Lords.

With a clear of his throat and a cream puff later, Jack tries to think. "My friend is wanted mainly for going back on his time line and saving someone who ought to be dead. Lets just say, the Time Lords aren't exactly happy about him playing with the very web of time in such a manner." Jack stops himself. "And for the most part, doing this is bad and it can result in a catastrophic chain of events."

"That's a hell of a thing to walk into," Hughes says with a sympathetic frown. "No wonder they have rules against changing things. Seems like even the smallest change could have a massive effect on future events. Think of how saving one life could potentially cause so many issues..." Oh, Hughes, you don't even know how right you are.

"Did it at least work?" he asks after a brief lull in conversation. "Is the person he went back for okay?"

"You're right. Because, even someone who might seem to be insignificant can somehow be someone important in the grand scheme of things," Jack says, and his expression softens when Hughes asks him about the person The Doctor saved. He takes a deep breath, and he looks at his empty coffee cup with a frown on his face.

"I don't know. Neither of us do, and he can't even seem to remember what she looks like. All he knows is the two of them traveled together, and that her name is Clara."

Hughes nods slowly. "It's always the little things, right?" Even disregarding time travel, the small things always seem to be the most important.

"Clara... want me to keep a lookout for her?" Offering to find someone in a place like the Nexus is a bit out of his reach, but that doesn't mean he can't offer to keep his eyes trained for the woman. "Know what she looks like?"

"That it is people really don't think that they don't matter but they matter more than they think they do." Jack sounds as if he took it right from The Doctor's book. But he even knows that there is a huge amount of truth in those words he speaks.

Jack pauses to think, and he nods his head. "I don't see harm in looking for her, but seeing The Doctor can't remember what she looks like, I'm at a bit of a lost in telling you what she looks like." And with Torchwood gone, and Jack's time spent more traveling the stars, his time on Earth and his intelligence concerning his companions has been extremely limited during these past few years.

"I'll keep my ears open for her name, then. And if I happen to find her, I'll let her know she has friends looking for her." It's not much, but it's something, at least. He hopes it'll help Jack feel a little better about his missing friend.

"Any way for me to get in touch if I do happen to find her? I've got a phone, if that helps." He's not necessarily very good at using it, but considering he really only uses it in the Nexus, that's not terribly surprising.

"Here," says Jack, as he reaches a hand out for a napkin and he goes to write down the number to his mobile. He's got one, and it does get use and lucky for him The TARDIS has excellent reception! "And please, she won't know me but she'll know The Doctor."

He then hands the napkin over to Hughes. "I think it will be a big help for both of them." At least Jack knows it might be of help to The Doctor to regain those memories of her again.

Hughes takes the napkin and folds it into a pocket. He'll put Jack's number into his phone later and send the man a message to make sure he's got it right then rather than be rude and pull his phone out while they're still talking. "Not a problem. I've always got my eyes open around here and I'm happy to help out in any way I can."
