1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.

Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.

The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?

For someone from a world where Samhain means setting up candles and elaborate rituals to welcome the dead in an orderly fashion, the Nexus' idea of Halloween is eye-opening. All Leo's done is let himself be stuffed into a simple costume, and now people keep pushing more baked goods and wrapped treats into his hands than he knows what to do with. But once he's tried a few of the treats (...and gotten over the initial strangeness of people partying on a day that for him always meant dead ancestors lecturing him on his studies and the messiness of his hair) and taken in the sights, he starts to enjoy himself.

So naturally, when he sees the Candy Exchange Program, he quickly assumes this is candy people are giving away for free, too. Cue him sticking his hand into the bowl, and grabbing a large handful to stuff into the pocket of his Pikachu costume-hoodie.

There's a random woman walking around in a Pokemon costume as well, who really doesn't care about the candy in the bowl. Rather, she's just having fun looking at the different costumes and drinking hot cider. It's Leo's Pikachu hoodie that catches Candela's attention and she can't help but walk over to him quickly in excitement.

"That's a really cool Pikachu costume you have on! I haven't seen many people dressed up as Pokemon around here." She's doing her best to not be overly invasive in his space, but she can't help but stare at the little ears and tail of the hoodie. "Did you make it yourself?"

Leo's halfway through stuffing a large chocolate peanut butter cup into his mouth when Candela approaches. Without even thinking about it, old school manners spontaneously kick in and soon Leo's stuffing the candy the rest of the way into his mouth. Cue awkward chewing, as he's suddenly faced with the familiar struggle of talking to a girl-- and the new one of doing it while trying not to look too ridiculous. Luckily for him, Candela's question gives him time to think-- and chew.

"Pokémon?" he finally coughs out, and then shakes his head. "Nah, it's not mine; A bunch of people up front picked it out for me 'cause I didn't bring a costume." A beat, and then he belatedly recognizes the excitement and familiarity in the woman's face. It's clear that what he thought was just a comfortable costume means something to her. "Is that what your costume is? A... 'pokemon'?"

Seeing Leo hastily stuff the candy away gets a small chuckle out of Candela, but not in a bad way. She gives him enough time to think, while reaching over to find a piece of candy for herself. When he informs her or his lack of knowledge towards Pokemon, she finds herself sighing, mainly at her own ability to jump the gun.

"Ah, yeah. Pokemon are creatures from my world who have special powers and such. I dressed as one of them, a bird made of fire, for the fun of it." She points to his points ears calmly. "The costume offered to you is a mouse Pokemon known as Pikachu. They have control over lighting and electricity."

She starts unwrapping a 3 Musketeer bar in order to calm herself down and not seem over-talkative. "Sorry for rushing you down like that. I get a got a littler excited at seeing something I recognized."

"Oh. My god. Ohmygodohmygod where did you GET THAT?!"

There's a little girl with no sense of volume control clinging to the sleeve of Leo's hoodie, her eyes wide and starry with how impressed she is with his costume.

"It's so cute I'mgonnadiiiiiiieeee! Augh!"

One minute she's talking fast enough to confuse an auctioneer and the next she's sucking in a deep breath and giving a little curtsy.

"Gooood evening, Sir Snuggabutt. I would like to extend to you the courtesy of attending my next Tea Party. Princess Fluffybutt has been going through such a hard divorce lately and you, sir, are exactly her type."
