1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.

Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.

The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?

"You seem awfully jumpy. Lack of uniform worrying you tonight?"

Of course Amelia's opening line would be something snarktastic when it comes to Jim Kirk. But despite her cool tone, there's an obvious halting to the rogue's movements in her chosen costume. Despite the fact that it covers everything it needs to, she feels a little awkward with the extra frills and leather this costume has.

"No see, this is the new uniform."

Jim quips back but there's no venom in his voice. He is rather nervous tonight, but not because of the party. He'll look Amelia's costume over and give her a grin.

"Glad you got into the spirit of it this year. I'm waiting for one of my crew. Bones said he'd be here, and I'm kinda wondering if I need to go back to the ship and make sure nothing happened in between him saying that and me getting here."

She grins right back at him. "Ha. Going to get the whole crew to dress up like this now? I'd like to see a picture of that." Because the entire crew of a spaceship dressed like they stepped out from a world like hers? Priceless.

"Oh? You have another member of your crew in the Nexus now?" She's a little surprised by that. Still, she actually feels a little bad for how nervous he seems to be about his friend, so she doesn't tease about it. "Maybe he got here before you did? Have you checked inside yet?"

"Not often, but the words 'open bar' might have had a hand in convincing him to come join in on the festivities. I told him to dress up and meet me here. He didn't say what he was coming as."

He is nervous, tonight. Not about Bones finding the place, because he's pretty sure it's impossible to miss this much ruckus going on from anywhere in the Plaza. But for other, personal, reasons.

"I'd be impressed if he made it here before me. He was still griping about it when I left to go get my costume..."

"Unless in the fuss of getting into that outfit you lost track of time." Her grin only widens. "It certainly looks like you took a while to get dressed tonight."

Not that he looks bad by any stretch of the imagination. Nervous, yes. Very handsome and befitting his costume? ...also yes.

"It suits you, though. The costume, I mean. You look nice." Her smirk warms into an actual smile, a little flustered as it is. Compliments aren't really her forte, but at least she actually means this one?

"I knew what I was doing."

Yeah, it definitely took him a while to get everything to sit and tie just right. They both know it, but that doesn't mean Jim has to give Amelia the satisfaction of hearing him say so. He chuckles though, at the compliment.

He's honestly surprised by it.

"You think? I was trying to go for something a bit more..." Would antique be offensive to her? Jim doesn't feel like picking a fight tonight. He's got enough going on. "You know. Classic. You're looking good yourself. I have no idea what you're dressed as, but I know it looks nice."

"Earth classic, I take it? I'm afraid it's not quite what was in style on my world when I last saw it." She gives him a wink to know it's all lighthearted fun tonight. As much as he's eager to not start something tonight, so is she. There... wasn't really a good place to hide a dagger or two in this outfit.

"Ahh, some villain or anti-hero called Catwoman. Only a slightly different version?" A light pink color touches her cheeks. "I'm afraid this is mostly my tailor's doing when I told him I wanted a real costume this year." Maybe she should've asked more questions about it so she could answer them tonight, but all she really wanted for the costume was a corset.

"Well, it'll make carving pumpkins a lot easier I'd wager, if this Catwoman has claws."

Though it's also another reason not to make Amelia upset on this evening. Claws plus her rage issues plus his face? Not a good idea. Jim will be on his best behavior.

"It's a good costume."

"She does, but I think they're more ornamental than functional." Not that she's tried or even wants to. That's a whole different kind of up close and personal that she really doesn't want to deal with.

She gives him a small, honest smile in return for the compliment. "Thanks. Yours is good, too."

"Probably for the best. Accidentally gutting your drink or something."

Jim chuckles and takes another glance toward the door.

"I should go look for Bones. He's gotta be around here somewhere."
