1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.

Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.

The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?

The sound of more candy being added to the bowl immediately gets Hughes' attention and he smiles brightly when he sees his friends all dressed up for the holiday. And, you know, more candy.

"Blaze! Ghost! Good to see you both! You look great." He smiles for a moment longer and then nods toward the bowl of candy. "So... what did you bring?"

"Thanks, Hughes." She tilts her carved grin at him. "You're teaming up with Katsuya, huh? Good thing I'm all out of bodily fluids."

She has to think about what they brought, ticking them off on her fingers. "Uh, we've got glimmer chews, void fizz, chocolate coins, fruit motes, a few kinds of those crunchy engram things-"

"And the traditional tiny box of raisins."

"Wait, did we leave that in?"

"Sort of. I helped him pick out a costume this year when he couldn't think of one. You should try and find him - he looks great!" Much more stylish and less... well, obnoxious than Hughes with all of the additions to his costume that Ice Bear provided.

"I don't know what any of those are, but I'm excited to try them all tonight!" He's going to make himself so sick if he tries all this new candy people are bringing. "But... why the raisins? Don't those go against everything this holiday stands for by being healthy?"

Do excuse Hughes as he pops out the fake teeth Ice Bear gave him to try the first of the new candies Blaze and Ghost brought. Mmm void fizz?

"We ran into him, yeah. Nice work on his costume." She chuckles. "He looks really happy, Hughes. More than I've seen before."

She doesn't know what any of the candies taste like either, so she can't warn him about the sweet-and-sour fizziness of the purple candyfloss he's unwrapping. "I'm not sure about that, but, uh- we collect candy from the people in the Tower. There's a Guardian called Eris Morn who gives out raisins."

"She's... not really a 'candy' kind of person."

The candy in his mouth is ignored at that comment from Ghost. "But... chocolate."

He's positively distraught about this. How could someone not like candy? It doesn't make sense to Hughes at all. Candy's one of the best things he's come across in the Nexus.

"Has she tried those little bars with the caramel and wafers in them? Maybe they'd change her mind..."

Blaze laughs at his utterly aghast response. "I wouldn't count on getting her to try. I don't know anyone half as grim as Eris. Can't blame her, though. She's suffered and lost more than any of us still living. Even if you'd think she'd celebrate the vengeance she's had lately."

She nudges Hughes. "Speaking of being serious, better watch your back. There's a vampire hunter on your trail, and he wants a trophy from you."

"You can't give up before you try, Blaze." Or until you let him try, that is. Goodness knows he has an ability to push people into doing what he wants with his overwhelming, uh, charm from time to time.

"Oh really now?" Hughes chuckles and shakes his head. "I think I can find something to give him without having to worry about losing my teeth to him. I'm quite resourceful, you know."

"Hey, I tried. She gave us the raisins." Clearly she doesn't have Hughes' powers of persuasion. It doesn't help that Eris is creepy even by her standards. Really, really creepy.

Though Hughes' words seem to shock her in a totally different way. He can't see the look she's giving him, of course, but it's in her voice, the jerk of her shoulders. "Hughes! You're not just going to give it to him, are you? Where's your sense of honor? You have to put up a fight! Make him show his mettle!"

"Next year, I'm going with you and I'll win her over to the side of candy." He's determined to make this happen now, so Blaze better be ready when this time of year rolls around again.

The talk of honor makes him laugh. "Never said it would be something he'd like after he got it, did I?" Oh how little faith she has in his cunning. Then again, he hasn't really had a reason to show it to her yet, but maybe some light-hearted fun at the party will be a good start. "Could always 'take a bite' out of him when I placate him, too," he adds with another small laugh. "That could be fun."

She laughs, apparently not taking it too seriously. She's going to be in for a surprise...

She's relieved by the rest of what he says, even if she can't show it effectively. Other than the laugh she lets out. "Show me what you've got, Intel. But try to keep it clean."

At least it's a good surprise?

"Come on, Blaze, there are kids at this party - of course I'm going to keep it clean!" He chuckles and shakes his head a bit at her. "But to your point, humans become vampires when they're bitten, right? So all I have to do is get real close for a minute and then he's all mine."

"I'm gonna get complaints for this, aren't I?" She snorts, but without a hint of regret.

"Complaints? About me? Never." He grins, which looks a little silly with the fake plastic teeth he's got in. "Don't worry - I'll have everyone here under my thrall in no time and there will be no complaints to deal with."
