1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.

Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.

The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?

"The dance floor is out front on the other side of the bonfire they've got set up. I haven't been out there yet myself either."

It has started to fill up out there, Josh notices. He takes one last look around the costume area to make sure everything's been cleaned up before turning back toward the woman dressed as a cat and heading for the door.

"All Hallows Eve. It's a day to remember the dead. Some cultures believed the dead could come back to life on this night, so people dress up to scare them off. Nowadays most folks treat it as a time to celebrate and get together."

"Oh," she replies, a small frown appearing on her face. "That sounds a little unsettling, don't you think?"

But still, she's heading towards the party. It interests her just enough that she's curious, and Iphigenia can't pass up dancing, anyway.

"Well, I guess if you were form one of those old cultures." And there goes Josh's foot skyrocketing into his mouth. He has no idea who he's talking to. Or where and when she's from.

"But like I said, folks don't believe in that kind of thing nowadays. Unless they come from worlds where they oughta. It's a great day. Costume parties, dancing, movies, music, food and drink...I love it."

Iphigenia almost says something about his remarks, but decides to keep her mouth shut. It's too nice of a night, she thinks, to ruin it with some sort of argument. Besides, he doesn't know her story, she tells herself.

"It does sound fun," she says instead, attempting a smile. "If you don't mind me, I think I'll go dance. Are you coming with?"

Her smile turns into a genuine grin. She figures the more the merrier out on the dance floor.

"I'll meet you out there. You don't wanna dance with me until I'm at least three drinks in."

Josh gives a slightly embarrassed chuckle and points toward the bar.

"I'm gonna liquor up and lubricate my decision making skills so I can join you in a bit."

[bornstrong]

"I'll see you out there," she replies, laughing a little, and heads towards the dance floor.
