1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.
Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.
The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?
((See the OOC post if you have any questions! Backtagging and threadhopping are fine. Come on in and have a blast :D ))

The small Rogers coughs a few times and tries to clear his throat when Amelia takes a seat next to him. He's really not doing bad but he needed a moment to himself to put himself back together.
"I might head over and try my hand at pumpkin carving instead of sitting outside with the smoke and the cold."

A beat, and then she nods in the general direction of the cafe, her lips tugging into a smile again. "Come on. I think I heard mention of warm drinks in the cafe, too. You the kind of person who likes a cinnamon stick in their cider or do you prefer it already blended in?"
no subject
"A warm drink sounds heavenly right now." Steve allows himself to be lead to his feet, glad that they're steady underneath him when he puts his weight fully on them. "Apple cider you mean?"
no subject
Once they're over by the drinks station, she grabs them each a mug of cider and hands Steve his before grabbing a cinnamon stick for herself. It's a rather awkward thing for her to do with the claws on her gloves, but she somehow manages not to skewer more than one or hurt herself. "Did you want one?" she asks, motioning to the cup filled with the sticks. "Looks like they've got some cloves to add, too, if you'd like."
no subject
"Oh, yeah. Please." He's never stuck a stick of cinnamon straight into his drink. Spices were pretty hard to come by and only for special occasions back home. Wasting an entire stick for a cup of cider seems sacrilegious, but there's plenty of it there so...no harm right?
"It still blows my mind the kind of things that are perfectly ordinary around here sometimes." He admits though, once he's stirring the drink with his stick of cinnamon.

"It's nice that things can be calm from time to time," she notes, taking a small sip of her cider to test the flavor. Needs a little more time with the cinnamon stick in it, she thinks. "There's been so much unrest here - it's rather nice to have a night from it. Parties like this are a rare and exciting thing."
Not that she's exactly a social butterfly, but Amelia does enjoy getting out to do things with friends that are out of the ordinary. She huffs a small laugh before adding, "The costume part is rather fun, too. Thank you for indulging me on yours."

Steve pulls the stick of cinnamon out of his drink and waits for the cider to drip off of it before holding it up for her to see.
"Back home you'd never catch someone wasting a whole stick of cinnamon just to flavor one drink. Spices were crazy hard to get and almost no one could afford 'em. Food was real bland. Had to be. We had to make every scrap go as far as we could."
Back it goes into his drink.
"It's one thing I like about this place. The food is so much better."

Says the Queen of Bad Timing and Decisions. But hey, it usually works out for everyone else, so why shouldn't she suggest it to Steve?
"So you're saying we should go out to try more food in the near future?" The corner of her lips tug upward into a smirk. "I'm pretty sure I could make that happen. I've got lots of free time these days."
no subject
Steve sips at the cider and makes a pleased hum at the flavor. Definitely better here. He wonders if the Earth most people are from cooks like this? He hopes so. It's definitely an experience.
"Frankly, with the amount of food the proprietors put out and the taste, I'm surprised everyone here isn't overweight." He chuckles slightly. "I'm never going to say no to that, Amelia.'
no subject
She smiles over her mug at him before taking a sip of her cider. Much better after a few more minutes of sitting. "Next time you're feeling up for a meal out, let me know. I'll be right over."
no subject
Technically speaking, but Steve sounds quite proud of himself when he mentions it. Amelia hasn't been over to his home since he acquired some new friends.
"You'll have to be introduced to them."

Of course, his companions are definitely intelligent enough to be considered at least sentient. He's not sure if he'd consider them on par with people or not though. And he's afraid of asking in case he offends literally everyone.
"They may take some getting used to before they're friendly toward you. Well, one of them, at least."
no subject
She doesn't know what someone would consider a housemate on Earth and seeing as the only housemates one has on her world are people, well, she made the assumption that was right. This having pets thing is still a little weird to her.
no subject
Steve's grinning now though. A bright smile that lights up his face.
"Do you remember that influx of strange sentient creatures a while back...?"
no subject
"I vaguely remember something like that happening this year." She was a little busy being introverted at the time, but she heard talk about them for weeks after they arrived. There seemed to be quite a few of them of many different varieties, from what people were saying, but-
Wait. Wait.
"...how many of these things did you bring home with you?" Because of course she's worried about the number before she's worried about what they are.
no subject
Steve raises both hands in defense. it's not like he kidnapped creatures form the Nexus, Okay. He made friends with them, and then later found out they never made it back to their world, either.
"I didn't bring them home. They're my friends. And someone else asked me to look after them." A certain Velvet Room gentleman, even. You don't say no to the butler of fates. "....Three."
no subject
"I trust you're taking good care of each other?" she asks, shaking her head a little. "I at least hope you're not having any trouble with them in your apartment." Intelligent as they may be, there's no telling what they might do in Steve's lovely apartment when left alone for too long.
no subject
And more importantly, they're keeping Steve from being alone. There's more earnestness to his smiles now. A life that seemed to have been drained from him before.
no subject
Because that smile is everything. His has always been a smile she loved, but seeing that he really means them makes it all the more endearing to her.
"Let me know when I can come over - I'd be glad to meet them."
