nexus_crossings | 1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.

Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.

The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?

Jim's smile turns the slightest bits nervous when he looks down at himself again. He'll busy himself with his drink but champagne flutes aren't meant for hiding awkwardness for prolonged periods of time because his glass is soon empty.

"I uh..."

He clears his throat. Scratches at the side of his face.

"I thought I'd dress like something out of my better half's kind of world, this year."

"I hope you're not matching then. That would make for too many ruffles in proximity to each other."

It's not really a scathing insult. Han doesn't even think of it as all that cruel of a thing to say. The idea of going in costume as something sentimental to yourself or someone else hadn't really occurred to Han before, though, and that's what he's thinking about more than anything right now.

"Lots of things I wouldn't usually do, I'd do for the right person." He finds himself admitting after a moment. "What'd she think?"

Jim actually laughs. He doesn't take it as an insult. It wouldn't surprise him if Jim and Felix did end up dressing as the same thing one of these years. And besides, Felix would look very nice in this getup too, Jim thinks. Not an insult at all giving him that pleasant mental image.

Good man, Solo.

"S'true. You don't really think about it until you're doing it and by then it's too late and you look like a fairy tale prince." Jim snorts and sets his empty glass aside. He'll have to get some more to drink soon here, but for now he's good. Gotta pace himself this year.

"Uh?" His thought process is thrown off when Han asks about a girl, and he finds himself wondering for a moment who Han could possibly think he'd come here with. And then it occurs to him that the pilot hasn't ever seen Felix probably and Jim grins. "Good guess, but not quite. Considering the look I got when I showed up, I'd say he's quite pleased with it. There's plenty of ladies here I'd make a pass at though, so I can see why you'd assume."

Lot of great looking dudes and nonhumans too. Really the Nexus is a mecha for attractive folks of all race, gender, and species.

Stars above, he hopes that Jim's wrong about that. That one day you wake up like any other day and you're dressed like that. It's not the kind of thing that would flatter him, although, maybe he could see Lando pulling it off.

"Oh."

Kirk plays for whatever team is catching his eye, huh? He can respect that. If you into that kind of thing you double your chances of landing someone with keeping around. Those can be kind of rare.

"My mistake, Jim. You guys been together for a while?"

Jim's got a particular look, but he also has no shame. Get him drunk enough, or provide the right motivation, and there's very little he won't wear at least once. Even if just for a laugh.

Any team in front of him, and all the shades of grey in between. Life's short enough without having those kinds of hangups, in Jim's opinion. He might also have been pretty easy to convince up until a year ago. Ah well.

How the times, they change.

"No big. I'm usually after women, so it's not like you're wrong." Jim nods toward the dance floor where more than a few Nexus beauties are getting moves on. "It's uh..." Gosh, it never seems real no matter how many times he says it. "It's actually a year tonight. I met him at one of these shindigs last year." Maybe Harrowheart's theory is on to something here.

"You're nervous."

It's not a question or a barb meant to get Jim agitated - he's annoyingly resistant to those, Han's noticed - but a statement of fact. He's been at enough card tables and been in enough gunfights to be able to tell when someone is rattled pretty well.

Hell, he's often trying to use it against someone when he notices it.

"I found that usually within a few weeks I know whether I'm all-in with somebody or not. You ought to try to celebrate it, man. Kryff if I can ever remember those anniversary type dates, but then, I suppose it's easier when it falls on a holiday."

"You have no goddamn idea."

Jim pinches the bridge of his nose and wishes suddenly that he did have another drink. Even if he shouldn't. The beer that kid in the shiny getup next to Han looks so nice and Jim almost gets up to go get himself one. Instead he takes a deep breath and shrugs.

"Never had anyone stick around this long before. I can spacejump three miles down onto a drill the diameter of a large dinner table, but dealing with relationships? Shit, I might as well be the world's biggest idiot there." He chuckles at himself before shrugging. "You looking for anyone tonight? If I know 'em I can introduce you guys if you'd like."

Kirk is more like him than he isn't. It's a fact that Han makes himself ignore a lot of the time, because he wants to be righteously angry at him. He's not all that sure why, even. It's not because he's stuffy. He's not the Mr. Rules and Regulations guy that he thought he was upon meeting him.

~~He's successful. He has a crew that would follow him anywhere. A nice, new ship. More capital than he needs to sustain his work.~~

"Me? No, I don't need to meet anyone. I got my hands full with the most deadly woman at this party. I can't tell if she's here yet, or not. You only see her if she wants you to see her." Spies. You gotta love them.

Jim blinks once, then looks around the party very seriously suddenly. The most deadly woman at the party? But that would mean...

"Is Dia even here? I didn't see her when I came in." There's an awful lot of deadly people in the Nexus, and the Black Widow isn't someone Jim has had the pleasure of meeting too terribly often. For some reason they just don't seem to hang around in the same place at the same time much.

Strange, really.

"Shit. You and her, huh?" Jim grins. "Good for you though."

"The broad with the sabers?"

Does it count as one lightsaber or two when they connect in the middle like that? He didn't even know they made them like that - truth be told. Not that there was a lot of circulation of information on lightsabers to begin with. Han wasn't even sure they were real.

"While I grant you that I wouldn't want to mess with that lady either, I was talking about Natasha." There he goes again, presuming that the Starfleet Captain must have met the Black Widow at some point.

"Natasha...I don't think I know her."

Jim shrugs after a moment. He's sure if Han pointed her out he'd recognize her if she's a Nexus frequent, but Jim certainly hasn't spent any time with her. He'd remember a deadly woman with looks to spare, after all.

"You said deadly and I assumed you were talking about the ex-assassin."

"This one doesn't really talk about what she's done."

Nothing against Dia, she is formidable and that she could be force-sensitive is terrifying if you believe all those stories people would tell about the Sith. It's just that the people who really made Han nervous are the people who don't look dangerous, but something inside of you says that they are without knowing why.

That's Natasha through and through.

"Anyway, if you see a red-head hanging around with the most incredible ass that you've ever seen, that's her."
