1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.
Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.
The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?
((See the OOC post if you have any questions! Backtagging and threadhopping are fine. Come on in and have a blast :D ))

"I don't come here very much, but between the two of us, I think we'll be able to find the refreshments."
With that qualifier offered, he will take her arm and lead her vaguely in the direction he saw Katsuya bring his drink from earlier. It has them heading towards the cafe. Steadiness isn't a problem because he's not that inebriated, but not tripping over her shoes could pose a problem.

With her arm linked with his she has a bit more stability, but there she is, waddling back and forth in the Tramp shuffle, comical, friendly - a child in clothes thrown on from a dress up box. There are only a few times that she actually trips, the bottom of the shoe getting caught on a stone or under foot, her gaze and attention being drawn away by a fantastic costume. And even those missteps turn out to be rather graceful, her balance and dexterity are impressive.
Eventually she sees a gathering, a sort of wide, sloppy queue and she points over to it after a tug to his sleeve. There, perhaps?
no subject
"Seems like the right place to me too."
By the grace of who knows what, Bone's has managed not to trip on the floppy shoes. Not so far, anyway. He's not willing to rule out that it won't happen in the future, but likely not while the stand in a line.

She had just walked off with him, it had seemed so easy, so simple. There never seems to be any sort of internal warning system with her, just - go. Just - do. Never is there a thought that this person might wish to do her harm. The thought strikes her now, random, idle, like wondering if she had remembered to do something trivial.
"My name is Hope," because it's not always easy to get to know someone when you don't speak. "I am new here," and in general.
no subject
She could certainly handle this country doctor without any trouble. It so happens that she won't have to worry about that from Bones. The CMO took a vow to do no harm and he meant every word when he said it.
"I'm Leonard." He says with a little bit of a drawl entering into his voice. Some semblance of southern gentility remains in him, even after going to a Yankee med school and living in space for years. "It's my pleasure to meet you, Ms. Hope."
no subject
"Where are you from? Do you live here?" The line is slow moving but whenever someone leaves the queue they all sort of shuffle forward.
no subject
It is hard to be social at a party going as someone who doesn't speak. As much fun as their pantomime was, he's thankful that she'll talk to him. It's a party. And the truth is, he doesn't get out much.
"I live everywhere." He says with a half-hearted shrug. "I'm from Georgia, USA on Earth originally. What about you?"
no subject
It certainly wasn't made that way, no sir.
"Metropolis, USA on Earth." Since he gave his address as such she figures that she might do the same. When she realizes how many different types of people there are here she will understand the smarts of this. "It sounds like you travel a lot? I've heard that Georgia is beautiful but I've not been there myself."
no subject
Leonard ducks his head bashfully.
"I get out there." He says when he lifts his head again, nodding in that way that seems almost like he doesn't believe what he's saying. "Waaaay out there."
"As far as Georgia is concerned, I came from a little place that was probably too small for it's own good. Everybody knew everybody and so it felt sort of ... claustrophobic when I was teenager. I was happy to head off to college at a certain point."
Is he rambling? Talking too much about himself? He should ask her a question ...
"Uhm. What's Metropolis like?"
no subject
"That sounds like a set up for a joke, how waaayyy out there is it?" Hope laughs even without knowing the punchline.
A nod, another nod of understanding. "Metropolis is not like that, it's a massive city, there's a sort of anonymity to it all. Except for the neighborhood you live in, if you stick around the area everyone gets to know you." It used to happen a lot more ages ago, but with people always coming and going it's not quite the same.
"What did you study in college?"
no subject
"I studied medicine." He hopes that's going to impress her and he's not all that sure why. It might have something to do with the fact that she's lovely and he doesn't chat up a lot of women that he already know. That makes chatting up this girl a kind of rare experience for Bones. "Did you uh ... are you in college or have you graduated?"
no subject
This was a comment given in profile after she put in her order, when the glass of wine is put down on the bar Hope turns to Bones again. "So you're a doctor? That's really wonderful, general medicine or specialized?" Space medicine? That's not a thing, it should be though, actually wouldn't that just be an astrophysicist?
There goes that blush to her cheeks again and she gives a slow shake of her head. "No, no, I've never been to college. I just work."
no subject
"I'll take a whiskey straight up."
At least it's something that's relatively easy to pour. When Bones has his drink, he holds out his arm so that they two can link as walk off to section of the part that's a little less densely populated.
"General medicine and general surgury," he explains. "I work on a ship with a large crew so I need to be prepared for almost anything."
When he gives her a chance to digest that information, which isn't that long - see seems to be keeping up with him just fine and isn't blown away by the idea of space travel. "What do you do for Doctor Luthor?"
no subject
"That makes a lot of sense. Do you have to know any alien physiology? That is if you've encountered any alien species," maybe there isn't any in his universe but she finds that highly doubtful.
A sip of wine at the question because she isn't entirely sure how to answer it. "Ah," a lick of the lips and then she presses them together. "Well, he's given me the chance to help fight crime in Metropolis so that's what I do."
no subject
"Non-human physiology is part of standard medical curriculum where I come from." He says with a slow nod of his head. "And we have half-human and non-humans on the crews of most Starfleet ships."
He's insanely curious as to what the breathtaking girl dressed in a peculiar halloween costume does for a living. Crime fighting ... is not what he pictured at all. "So you work in law enforcement?"
no subject
With him holding her up she gently nudges him toward an open couch. "Lets sit! I may take my shoes off if it's not too rude," but maybe not she doesn't know how polite or impolite it would be to do so.
"Um," that makes her pause in thought. "Kind of, independent law enforcement I suppose. I mean they do the real hard work I just help out, I take on some of the bigger stuff that they might not be able to handle."
no subject
As if to suggest that he is in accords with idea of sitting, he also starts walking toward the couch. "Oh, feel free to lose to shoes. They seem hard to walk around in."
The doctor settles himself on the couch next to Hope and continues. "I'm afraid you're going to have to go into more depth about your earth. Supersuits and what it is you do I'm kind of having a little trouble grasping."
no subject
Laughing, Hope puts the pumpkin full of candy on the coffee table in front of the couch before slipping off her shoes and sitting down on the couch cross legged, glass of wine still in hand. A sip of wine and she turns herself so she can face the Doctor.
"Um, there are people in my world with super powers," gosh this is oddly hard to do because it will involve talking about herself. "Meaning they have abilities beyond normal human abilities, or they have enhanced abilities. Like, there are people who can fly, can see through buildings, or lift a car up and over their head. I can do some of those things too."
no subject
You'll have to forgive him, Hope. Superpowers aren't really a thing where he's from. Genetic enhancement produced Khan, but he wouldn't quite equate him with a superhero.
"Like in those old ..." really, really old "... comicbooks."
no subject
"Like Superman? Have you read comic books about him?" Because of course The Man of Steel would have his own comic book. "Or The Flash? Someone who can go supernaturally fast? They use their super powers for good, or, I guess for evil too. Depending on the person."
no subject
She could be crazy, but even in his limited time in the Nexus, he's heard crazier. Besides the fact that he doesn't seem to think that she is - most people who are mentally ill have symptoms that you can pick up on, if you know what to look for.
"I didn't really read them, I have to admit. There was a Superwoman, I think? Maybe an Ultraman?" It wasn't his thing when he was a kid. Bones wanted to play basketball when he was a teenager and hung out with jocks before he ended up in med school.
no subject
A drink of her wine (really, she should probably stop that) and she sets the glass aside on the coffee table, getting ready to stand.
"I could show you, if you'd like." Not that she has any really wild and cool powers (comparatively speaking.)
no subject
"I'd find a demonstration fascinating." He says, taking a sip own his own drink. "Providing you can do it safely."

A little push off the ground and she rises about five feet in the air before doing a very Chaplin-esque walk away from him twirling the cane she brought for just such an occasion. A pant hitch at the end before and a few more steps before she turns around to head back with the same kind of waddle walk.
no subject
Whether it's the drinks or the fact that he's so often stuck in the mode of being the serious one, the doctor finds himself laughing.
"I have to admit I've never seen anyone do that before."
