1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.
Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.
The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?
((See the OOC post if you have any questions! Backtagging and threadhopping are fine. Come on in and have a blast :D ))

Steve's glad to see Dean looking better than he'd been when they'd met, and moves to greet his acquaintance as soon as he catches sight of him. Steve's own outfit is themed after a superhero sidekick he knows nothing about, but he is grateful to have pants rather than tights. He saw some of those costumes. No thank you.
"I've kept watch over the event until you showed up, Marshal." Steve quips, playing along. "Everything seems to be going alright."

"Good job, there deputy. And my partner John Wayne is somewhere in that mess of a crowd," says Dean, when it comes down to his brother. "And you'd be damned if I wasn't going to show myself. Free food, good tunes, and a chance to meet some of the people here wasn't something I was going to turn down."
Dean reaches his hand into the pocket of his duster, and he pulls out a big Snicker's bar and he tosses it out to Steve. "I hope you aren't allergic to peanuts."

It's important to ask these questions in the nexus, Steve has learned. And he's seen The Big Trail and Stagecoach, so he's well aware of who John Wayne is, thank you very much. He catches the Snickers bar and laughs at the last comment.
"Thankfully, no. I've got enough problems as is."

He looks at his beer. "You drink?" Dean asks, and he nods his head over towards the bar. "Cause if you do, I ought to get you a drink. And even if you don't, I'll see about getting you a soda or something."

This is quite modern compared to what Steve had worn last year, and he's glad that it's warmer too.
"I'll take a beer if you're asking." He's not much for soda and while he wouldn't call himself an active drinker, exploring the various types of beer the Nexus offered was an occasional indulgence Steve found he rather liked.

"Just don't end up getting drunk." He sits himself down on an empty bench, and he motions for Steve to take a seat besides him. And he looks in the direction of the person manning the bar, and he tips his hat. "Two beers, for me and my good friend here. Make'em cold. Ice cold."

He's aware of his rather stiff limits when it comes to drinking, and it's really not worth all the suffering he's seen others have when going past said limits. Steve's sick often enough without making himself that way, thank you very much.
Also don't say anything about how he has to scramble to get up on the barstool just a bit. He's old enough to drink, he's just small okay. The bartender is a kindly looking Japanese man dressed like a vampire who gives a toothy grin Dean's way and nods politely. He asks them if they have a preference. It's a question that always pleases Steve. They do this with coffee too. There's more than one kind of coffee? Or beer? He's always amazed to learn this.
"Lager for me, thank you."

"They do this back in the 40's? You know the whole costume party thing." Dean reaches a hand out for his beer, and he goes to knock it back and it takes him two long gulps to down the beer. He follows it up with a belch, and he proceeds the slam the mug down on the table. "Keep'em coming!" He calls out to the man dressed up as a vampire
He plans to get drunk tonight, or maybe he doesn't. If things happen he might not mind being somewhat sober to deal with them, but he's got Cas and Sam to look after things.

Steve chuckles into his beer after he takes a long sip of the drink with a pleased hum. There's an awful lot to enjoy about the future in a place like this. Mostly food and drinks. No one wants to eat Depression Era food. The people who invented it didn't want to eat it, but survival was much more important than enjoyment.
"We didn't give out candy back then, either. I mean, some folks did. But it was fruit, lots of times. Small treats. Usually home made."
