1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.

Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.

The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?

"Oh, then I'll visit your desk, of course!" She's smiling as he twirls her, but when she hears his question, her smile fades.

"I have not," she says. "I mean, I cannot."

Still, she doesn't want him to feel bad for asking, so Katherine puts another smile on her face, albeit a strained one.

He tilts his head, but she doesn't seem to want to elaborate. His smile takes on a sad note, and he inclines his head to her a little.

"I'm sorry," he says gently- and unspoken: to have distressed you. "I hope you've found the Nexus welcoming. I'm certainly pleased to have the prospect of your company ahead. Ah! But I've forgotten myself." He winks, and breaks the dance a moment to bow. "Forgive my lack of manners. Felix Caelus, apprentice mage in the Imperial Legion."

Her smile turns genuine now, as she's charmed by his introduction.

"And I am Katherine Howard, lately of England, and now...now of the Nexus!" She giggles and curtsies in return. "It is a pleasure to make your aquaintance, sir."

Distraction from her sorrows? Exactly what she needs.

"The pleasure is mine." He offers a hand, to lead her back into the dance. "I hope you're settling in easily. The Nexus is a very peculiar place, after all. It can be difficult to adjust to so many strange people... machines... magic..."

"It can be overwhelming, yes," she agrees, gladly taking his hand. "I still don't think I know how many things work."

She giggles, as if amused by her own ignorance.

"But no matter! I'm here having fun, so that's what is important."

[conjuredskies]

"Not enough people know how to focus on the joy in life," he agrees, taking a minute to find his place in the dance again. "And if you ever would like any assistance finding your way here, I'd be be only too happy to give it."

"You're very right about joy," she says with a little nod. "And though I do get confused by many modern things, I always like to ask."

She motions for him to twirl her.
