+1 Italian polymath
It's usually a safe bet that finding yourself in the Nexus unexpectedly is a jarring experience. That's certainly how Leonardo's finding it, although his response isn't entirely negative.
If anything, it's quite the opposite; he's only made it as far as the Plaza, but he's already completely enthralled with the place. He has no idea how he's gotten here, or why the door to his workshop has led him to this new, strange place, but he's happy to worry about how to get home later. With a notebook held open in his right hand and his left scribbling barely legible notes, he wanders and watches and takes in everything around him, excitedly muttering things to himself every now and then.
When someone wanders by talking on a phone, he openly stops and stares after them, wide eyed in wonderment as he asks a question that he's not expecting anyone to actually answer.
"Come affascinante...un dispositivo do registrazione, forse..?" Shaking his head in disbelief, he can't keep the wide smile of anticipation off of his face. "Che concetto fantastico!"
*How fascinating...a recording device, perhaps? - What a fantastic concept!

"Sì. C'è un sacco di tecnologia qui. Vecchi e nuovi." He holds out the phone so Leonardo may see it. "Sei nuovo qui?"
*Yes. There is a lot of technology here. Old and new. Are you new here?

"Incredibile..." More notes get jotted down before he says anything else, though it's aimed more at himself than anyone around him. "So whatever this place is, it is still in Italy? Affascinante!"
Gesturing to Ice Bear's phone, he finally addresses him directly, eyes curious and quill ready. "Scusi, signor...orso - what is that device you're holding? May I ask what it does?"
no subject
"Ice Bear apologizes. This place isn't Italy, but many people speak the language here. This is the Nexus, a meeting place between worlds."
The phone is his paw is held closer, claws spread outward so the device is easily view-able. "This is a cell phone. People use it to talk to one another from long distances. Or take photos." He nods a little. "Do you want to hold it?"
no subject
When he's asked if he wants to hold it, Leonardo is practically giddy. He has no idea how it can be used to talk with another person, but he'll be damned if he doesn't find out in the next few seconds.
"Si, if I may!" Tucking the notebook under his arm with the quill haphazardly poking out from between the pages, he reaches out and takes the phone, handling it with the utmost care. When he touches the front and the screen lights up, his entire expression visibly brightens with it.
"I have never seen anything like this - you say it is used for communication? Mi dispiace, but I cannot see how such a thing is possible - especially over long distances. How does it work? And, please - what is a 'photo'?"
no subject
"Yes. Using towers that transmit data, people can call each other." The Nexus, however, might have some magic involved if people can make inter-dimensional calls, but that is something Ice Bear can't even begin to explain. Best to keep to the stuff he already knows.
"Ice Bear can show you." He leans over and points to a little icon on the phone that's shaped like a camera. "Photos are images that can be taken and saved. Point the phone at something, then press the button."
no subject
"And that's all I have to do? Just press it?"
He doesn't know what he means by 'saving images', but he's keen to find out. When he finally does press the icon and it clicks, he waits a moment for something else to happen. He's not sure what, exactly, but it seems like a good thing to do.

Ice Bear watches with curiosity, giving Leonardo all the space and time he needs. Once the click goes off, the bear leans in and taps a small little icon with a butterfly on it. Within seconds, the picture that was recently taken shows up on the screen.
"Ice Bear doesn't know how it works in detail. But, Ice Bear can take you to a place where a phone can be purchased."
no subject
Ice Bear's phone is given back to him before he can drop it from excitement - this is beyond anything he's ever seen before, or anything he'd even dreamed of inventing, and he's adamant that he needs to know how it works in the near future.
"That would be most appreciated - I have never come across anything like this, it's quite incredible!" Almost as incredible as the fact that he's still speaking in coherent English. "Ah- forgive me, signore, I have not introduced myself."
And then, with a polite little bow of the head, "I am Leonardo Da Vinci. It's a pleasure."
no subject
"I'll call you back." She pulls the phone away from her ear, swiping her thumb across the screen to end the call. Natasha walks back over to him and holds out her phone.
"Un trasmettitore voce. Stavo parlando in tempo reale con il mio compagno." Her Italian isn't her best, but she does a better job with it than Barton does, and that's all that matters.
"Hai appena arriva?" A pause, and then Natasha clears her throat. "Do you speak English?"
no subject
Giving her a wide, friendly smile, he nods, quill poised to jot down more notes. "Si, parlo inglese - please, how does it work? If you have time to tell me, of course."
no subject
Natasha has been down this road before and this guy looks to be from a much older time than Rogers came from. She holds the phone so he can see the various buttons on the bottom and sides of her Starkphone.
"The real machinery is inside, but we'd break it if we opened this case...." Natasha looks thoughtful and then jerks her head toward the shops up the street toward downtown. "Come on, We can get a burner phone and I'll let you take that apart."
no subject
The idea of taking something apart to see how it works is very appealing to him, and while he'd never want to do it to someone's personal possession, he's more than happy to follow her lead and get a 'burner phone'. Whatever that meant.
With a slightly sheepish smile, he glances from her phone to her as he talks. "It is almost like you read my mind, signorina; my first thought was how I might take it apart and see how it worked - it really does look like a fascinating device." And then, after seconds pause, "Oh! My apologies, I've been terribly rude. I have not introduced myself!"
Transferring his notebook to his left hand, he holds out his right for her to shake. "My name is Leonardo Da Vinci, it's a pleasure to meet you."
no subject
It wounds like this is going to be a long explanation. Natasha hums thoughtfully while they walk, pausing when he introduces himself and--Sorry give her a second. Leonardo Da Vinci. Okay.
Wow.
This is happening right now. She shakes his hand politely.
"Natasha Romanov. It's a pleasure, Mister Da Vinci. And...electricity is a type of energy. Lightning, for example. Is current ellectricity."
