The Written Word

[quiet_librarian]

A tall, and dignified woman dressed in Victorian gowns sits quietly at one of the Plaza tables, with a few sheets of parchment scattered out on the table before her.

She paused for a moment, uncertain about the words she wants to write.

Glancing around her surroundings, she takes a moment to compose her thoughts. "It can be difficult to be separated by someone close to you. How do you keep a connection, when more than just distance separates you?"

"I am not an artist." Dru smiles softly. "My mother paints."

"And she helps me create my dresses."

"I am a bibliophile. A book lover."

[poetwarrior]

"You do not create?" The very concept is baffling to him. "Yet you write messages for your beloved. Do you not use your words to forge imagery?"

[quiet_librarian]

"Yes. I use words. But they are not something that I could consider artistic. Or poetic."

"It is more a brief detailing of my days. My thoughts."

She tilts her head. "Not every human has artistic inclinations. Some are more scientific. Some are more religious. Some are more political."

[poetwarrior]

"These things are mutually exclusive among your people?" That doesn't make much sense either, but again, he reminds himself that these are aliens, with alien values.

[quiet_librarian]

"Every human is unique in what interests them. There is nothing that is a mutually shared by the whole human population."

"For example, I have a twin brother and he and I have very different interests. We share a few... but we pursue different paths."

[poetwarrior]

"Certainly. Humans are an individualistic species. It is rare than any culture holds all opinions as a unified mentality. But is it not possible for humans to hold interest in more than one of those things?"

[quiet_librarian]

"Of course it is. There are many humans who hold interest in many things." Dru is glad to clarify the misunderstanding.

[poetwarrior]

Well, that's good at least. If humans only ever liked one thing at a time, that would be far beyond strange. "My people believe in balance. To destroy, one must also create. Thus warriors are often poets."

[quiet_librarian]

"That is a very interesting belief. Very noble."

"A balance is very important to have."

[poetwarrior]

"Do you seek such things?" Faris questions politely.

[quiet_librarian]

"It is important to me to have balance in my life."

"I was gifted with some unique abilities. And having balance and control over those abilities help me life my live."

[poetwarrior]

Faris tilts his head to the side slightly. "Does this also impact your relationship with your intended lifemate?"

[quiet_librarian]

"He accepts my abilities, just as he accepts me. He has never expressed any concern."

[poetwarrior]

That hadn't been what he meant at all, and he turns another puzzled look on her. "Such things are considered concerning by others?"

[quiet_librarian]

"They are." Dru answers softly. "There are some humans who are suspicious of others who have abilities that they themselves do not possess."

[poetwarrior]

"Such a trait is sadly not unique to humans. My sympathies."

[quiet_librarian]

"No. It is more common for humans to have no special abilities at all."

[poetwarrior]

"I meant the suspicion of others unlike oneself," Faris clarifies. "Though I would also point out that there are abilities common to humans that you may not see as special, but would qualify from another species' reference point. For example, the linguistic range of humans, in terms of pitch and variety of sounds able to be created, is far wider than that of my people. Human endurance is also higher than many known species, allowing far greater stretches of physical activity without excessive tiring."

[quiet_librarian]

"That is a very valid point. Especially since we are now building relationships with aliens." Dru appreciates his counsel.

[poetwarrior]

Faris can't smile like humans do, but he makes an attempt to move the corners of his mouth in a similar way, flicking his tail from side to side. "Such matters of perspective may not be apparent, though they are valuable tools to be practiced, much as physical skills must be practiced to be effective."

[quiet_librarian]

"I have started learning a few new languages. I love the written word so much. I want to read books from different cultures."

"Expand my love for the written word."

[poetwarrior]

"Written only?" Faris questions, tilting his head.

[quiet_librarian]

"No. I love stories of any kind. Written. Verbal."

[poetwarrior]

Faris does that not-quite-smile again. "That is good. There are many tales and histories that are not written, and it would be unfortunate if one did not show an interest in them."

[quiet_librarian]

"My relationship actually started with the two of us learning about each other's cultures."

"Tyr'adn tells such wonderful stories about his people's past."
