+1 Doctor
The Doctor arrives in the Nexus. And he's not sure how he got here. Not that it matters. He has no TARDIS and no memories of Clara. All he has are the clothes on his back, his sonic specks, and his trusty guitar. Okay, he has a little rucksack filled with a change of clothes and other odds and ends that he's collected on his quest.
He looks around and this place looks... rather American, considering. Of course, everything looked American to him these days, he's spent far too long in the States looking first for the TARDIS and then for Clara. He so far has been unsuccessful at both.
"Excuse me, has anyone seen someone called Clara?"
{{OOC: The Doctor's Canonpoint will be in flux until I figure out which one is best for this setting. I'll make it clear in his threads.}}

"Now that is a problem. Not just your missing friend, but the fact that you somehow had your memories tampered with. And I take you don't remember who did this to you." He sounds concerned, really concerned.
"Is there anything you might make you remember her?" He's not a doctor, but the detective in him doesn't see any harm in trying to jar The Doctor's memory loose.

He offers a small shrug and bites nervously at his thumb.
"The TARDIS might help... if she's in the mood for it, but that would involve finding her too..."
no subject
Nick's one eyebrow quirks upward. "I always thought the universe was a big place. So using a neural block to forget her doesn't seem like that was a good idea." He really has no idea.
He steeples his fingers together and he mmms. "Let me guess you blocked your other friend out from your memories."
There is another groan coming from Nick, and he is starting to wonder if he ought to setup a Valentine's Detective Agency here in The Nexus. But he still has lots to learn before he can even consider it, like what exactly is a TARDIS and how to find them.

Especially when you're billions of years old. He shakes his head.
"No. The neural block was a one-way thing. It would either be set to Human or Time Lord. She said she had tried to change it with my sonic. I wasn't convinced, so we both held the device and activated it. It worked on me. So, I remember bits and pieces, but mostly I've just figured things out by the holes that are in my memory."
Takes a lot of time and patience.

When one is stuck to ol'planet Earth, the universe does seem like a big place. Nick keeps his fingers steepled together, it seems to be an old habit of his as he tries to make some sense of what The Doctor's being told. "Time Lord? Never heard of them before, so I take it you're not human." And he is starting to hate to think of what this neural plug may have done to an actual human and not an alien.
And there is a thin smile. "It seems a lot easier than going all over yonder looking for missing pieces of data."
no subject
"Ah... that is a problem when you have data banks. Though to be fair, it's a problem even if you don't."
He offers a sombre grin. Well, at least Nick didn't call him an alien. That gets old. Especially when everyone is alien to everyone else, when you think about it.
"But, it's not enough. I still have massive gaps and if I found her, I'm pretty sure I'd be able to put more together."

Treating someone just because they come from another planet with awe, suspicion, and fear is something Nick is all too familiar with.
"But would you know her if you saw her?" Nick asks. "Because if you don't that might be a problem, and you may have passed her without even realizing it."
no subject
Because, well the Doctor likes to tinker. And if he can learn a thing or two, all the better.
A very faint smile appears.
"There's one thing I know about her. Just one thing. If I met her again, I would absolutely know."
Doesn't mean he'd admit it. Because sometimes that makes goodbyes harder, but he would know.

He looks at The Doctor and then he looks down to the ground with a long look on his face. "It isn't like I can exactly go back to the people who put me together and ask for a tune-up every time I get dinged up."
no subject
"Not as long-lived as you?"
Or maybe the planet died, or maybe they were all killed. Many options, but the Doctor is trying.

And he looks up to The Doctor. "The people who built me aren't exactly warm and friendly. And I know this from having to spend time working on cases where people were abducted by them." And he mutters something about a filing cabinet of cases that are still open.
And a dead planet would be somewhat close to Nick's home. "What about you? Couldn't your own people help you and your friend?"
no subject
"Let's just say, the relationship you have with your people is similar to the one I have with mine."
He supposes at least he has people now, but sometimes he wonders why he ever saved them.
"Besides, it was their fault that she died and I had to save her to begin with. If I go to them for help, they will just put her back to the moment of her death."
Which would defeat the whole point of saving her.
no subject
But still he thinks he can relate to The Doctor, and he frowns when he hears mention of his people being responsible for the death of his friend. "Good enough reason to avoid them. And maybe you will run into her here. Because this is the perfect place to be if you're looking to hide from people who might want you dead."
no subject
Except for himself. He never quite worked out how to offer so much hope to everyone else, when he himself doesn't have near as much as he pretends to.
"Homo sapiens are a good species. They get a little misguided sometimes, but they're still young. Time Lords, have no excuse. We're the oldest race in the universe."
Yes, he's still connected to them. Still claims the title.

Nick still is going to hold on to hope for his friend to make a change, but he saw him become a different man from the one he met. A man who saw him and others like him as objects. "Humans are good, but if I were to show you the world they now call home. But that doesn't mean that all of them are horrible, and not capable of change."
"And there needs to be people to help those who are just trying to survive."
no subject
"A majority of humans are decent enough. Unfortunately, those are usually the quiet ones, being oppressed, rather than those in power."
It's just the way it is sometimes.
"Well... I do what I can. I don't always succeed, but I try."
