Welcome Committee

There's been so many fresh faces to the Nexus recently, and more than a few of them have been children. Questions about finding a way home, about trying to decide if they want to go home. People wondering what to do now...

There are a few tables set out this morning in the Plaza in front of a small cafe loaded with several caraffes of coffee, breakfast pastries from more than a few different worlds and cultures, and a large pan of eggs and sausage kept warm over a chafing dish. On either end of the table are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery as well as a few welcome pamphlets in a small container. Along the front of the tables is a hand made banner.

"Meet and Greet"

Manning the tables is Katsuya Suou, red apron on and a cup of coffee in hand. He looks far too cheerful for how early in the morning it is.

"Right then, is anyone hungry? Have any questions about the nexus?"

((OOC: Feel free to mingle and threadjump in this thread. I'm trying to get people who have yet to meet to interact, so do not feel obligated to only reply to me!))

When exactly Natasha showed up to this little shindig is anyone's guess, but she's got herself a bellini and a couple of guava pastelitos and will be just over here off to the side sitting by herself somewhere out of the way.

She's keeping an eye on everyone despite how casual she appears.

"Hey." Adam comes up to join Natasha, with his cup of Irish Coffee in hand. He isn't exactly the one to join in the whole social aspect of these types of things. And even if it might be beneficial, Adam would be much happier watching a ball game back in his apartment.

"Never thought I would see you here." He goes to take a seat at her table with or without an invitation. And of course, he still lacks a name to go with her, and he is aware that he didn't exactly get a chance to introduce himself.

"Specs."

By the way Natasha has nodded her head in greeting, it's apparent that she has assigned her own name to him to call him by. Whether she has dug around to find out more or not is something she keeps to herself. She watches him take a seat and continues eating her breakfast.

"Why not? It's a big deal whenever people really gather in the Nexus, and there's a few people here I need to keep an eye on."

"Red."

If she is going to assign him a name, Adam will do so in kind even if it isn't exactly the most exciting of names. He takes a drink of his coffee, as he eases himself into the chair. And he watches the people from his seat from above the lip of his coffee cup. And as he places it down on the table, Adam turns his head to look at her with a raised eyebrow.

"I didn't take you for someone who was much of a people person." But now that he has that bit of information, Adam might not be sitting most of these events out. And as he goes to finish up the coffee up in his mug, he turns his head to look back at Natasha.

"And who is here that I should be worried about?"

The nickname makes her eyes slightly less severe. You could almsot argue that she might be amused by it. Maybe. Her expression is too difficult to ascertain most of the time. She shows people what she wants to.

"Some under my protection. Some a concern." The little Steve Rogers would fall into the first. Though she's tried rather hard for him not to know about her, she keeps a very close eye on him. As for the latter category...

"Worried about directly? The officer holding this gathering has a supernatural affinity toward fire and fights demons. You've got a few supernatural hunters, several mages, and a mentally unstable kid who tortured his friends all gathered here. And that's just for starters. Take your pick, really." She sips her drink.

"You're not alone about having someone you're keeping safe." Adam looks over to where Vaclav is sitting. With things back home proving to be hostile to augs, Adam doesn't want to end up with his doctor dead. And there were some, um, dealings. But this umbrella has already found itself extending to others in the Nexus.

"So what we've got here is a potential for disaster, and the biggest threat in the room is a teenager. It seems like I'm off to a perfect start for the day." Adam seems less than happy about the prospect of dealing with a mentally unstable teenager. And there appears to be a few of them in the room, and now if he can just figure out whom this said teenager is.

He seems less concerned with the hunters and mages. It is always the one person people least suspect. And perhaps, Adam might make his way to meet with some of these kids.

Even when he wants to try to relax, Adam finds himself easily slipping into work mode. "I'll see if I can find and make for some small talk with him later on." He tries to real himself back into what this event is meant to be, but it isn't exactly easy.

"Which is why I'm here. Keeping an eye on things. Assessing threats."

Ready to escort anyone away at a moment's notice and if necessary take them to another world entirely where the anti-violence field does not apply. She's nothing if not an efficient security force.

"And if anything does happen, I have your back. As for assessing threats, I'm also looking to find allies as well."

As for the anti-violence field, Adam's sure he can find some way to get around it that doesn't resort into someone leaving with a busted nose or arm.

"You have my back? Someone's trusting."

Natasha doesn't mean for it to be as much of a challenging statement as it comes off. Or maybe she does. She doesn't know Adam yet and there's an inherent mistrust at someone wanting to get close to her even if it is just to help.

"How do you know I'm your ally?"

[personal profile] bratan 2016-10-23 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Adam knows her no more than she knows him, and in fact, he doesn't have any one he can trust here besides Vaclav. He tilts his head down and he looks at the empty mug of coffee in front of him, and he then looks back to Natasha with an unreadable look on his face. And the gold eye shields over his eyes don't help make reading him any easier.

"And how do you I'm yours?" He asks her in kind. But if something were to happen and go wrong, Adam has no qualms about jumping in to help defuse the situation. But there is still lots of truth about finding those in this world that he can trust. And without his enemy from home here, or at least as far as he knows it.

"Or anyone's for that matter. Perhaps all of this is a ruse of mine to come and take over the Nexus." His tone is coy and he seems to be playing with her. And it seems that he still doesn't carry himself in the same way as a spy does when it comes to dealing with people.

"I'm not the one who offered to be an ally here."

Natasha points with her glass before taking another sip out of it and getting up from where she's been seated. She's not going to leave, she just needs a refill on her bellini. The bartender bear is quite good at his job. Natasha makes sure to put a tip in the jar before she comes back.

"I doubt it. You've got to have enough sense not to try that while telling me about it."

He does need to find people he can trust here, and there is no denying it for Adam. But there is something of a rarely seen thin smile on Adam's face as he watches Natasha come back with her drink.

He reaches his hand to his bearded chin and he strokes it with his hand. "I've been reading the megalomaniac handbook, and rule number one is. Be sure to inform everyone of your intentions in detail in order for the hero or heroine to have enough time to defeat you."

The smile fades and he rests his hand back on the table. "But you're right, I was the one looking for an ally."

ooc: And feel free to drag Adam into the food fight. ;)

*Thwip*

A long strand of spider webbing hits the side of the Black Widow's plate and the pile of food slowly gets dragged across the table by a young hero wearing a black costume.

What? Don't judge. He can't resist pastelitos. If they're half as good as his Nana's it will be so worth the ire ...
red_room: (Really?)

[personal profile] red_room 2016-10-17 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Stab.

Natasha didn't intend to break the strand of webbing attached to her plate, but she does intend to stop it from being drug across the table. Trapping the webbing to the table between the tines of her fork at least stops the plate when it runs into the fork.

It also gives Natasha a moment to look up with a glower to the costumed kid with the balls to steal her food. Stark has him wearing black now? It's an improvement, in her opinion, but still...

"...Really? You didn't think I'd notice, brat?"

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-10-18 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Um."

Gulp.

It's not as if he expected the redheaded lady to take her plate being stolen by Spider-man well, but, he didn't expect her to react so aggressively.

"I get that I shouldn't be taken your food, but I think these are the last two. I don't suppose you'd be willing to offer one up? They're my favorite ..."
red_room: (What is that)

[personal profile] red_room 2016-10-18 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
She leans back slightly, her face going oddly blank. it's an impossible to read expression but in truth Natasha is shocked. That isn't Peter Parker. That's not the kid Stark had taken under his wing when they were looking to stop Steve months ago. They're a similar build, roughly the same age, but that isn't him.

"You're not Parker." She says finally. Her tone is decisive. "How did you get that getup?" Her fork is pulled from where she'd embedded it into the table and she holds the plate out toward him. Go on, take one.

"Did Tony put you up to this?"

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-10-18 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely not him. He just sounds ... a little less sheltered than Peter Parker and certainly less enthusiastic. Even now as he realizes that this might be the Black Widow he's tried to steal food from, he's not star-struck.

He's been around other heroes for the last three years and he's noticed that they're kinda just like regular people with powers. (Or in some cases, without them.) Go figure.

Miles gets a little closer and takes one. He wouldn't want to waste a single bite by trying to web it over to himself. Yum. He pushes up the bottom of his mask enough to take a bite.

"Tony? You mean, Tony Stark? No. He only tells me what to do sometimes. I'm not even an Avenger anymore. And this costume came from S.H.I.E.L.D."

"None of us are."

Avengers any more, she means. Natasha swirls whats left of her bellini in her glass and stares down into it for several long moments.

"Then again there is no S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore where and when I'm from, so. Natasha Romanov. You're less irritating than the Spider-Man I know."

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-10-21 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There are Avengers where Miles is from. New Avengers. Old Avengers. A team full of female avengers. It seems like you can hardly meet a superhero where he's from that hasn't been an Avenger for at least a week or two.

But it does tell him that they're not from the same reality. Should he ... tell her what his name is? It seems like professional courtesy since she did give him her's. And how much trouble can it get him into if she's not even from the same version of earth as he is?

"I'm Miles." He says when he's finished chewing and swallowing. "I try not to be irritating when I can help it."

"...Miles. Do you prefer Spider Man?"

It seems only polite to ask considering the hesitation he showed before he gave her his name. He doesn't seem like a bad kid. There's a slight softening to her features. She moves the last pastry off to a napkin and slides it purposefully across the table so he can have that one too. She already had her own share, and he's been professional to her. Positive reinforcement.

"Good to meet you. Do you know me? A version of me, rather."

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-10-23 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"When I'm in costume." He clarifies. "Not so much when I'm out."

Now, this is more like he envisioned it going when he initially sat down here. Some one-on-one superhero bonding and some sharing of food. This is what a big nexus breakfast should be like. Not to mention, Natasha seems to have good taste in food, so. He trusts her to have equally as good taste in baked goods.

NomNomNom.

"I don't know you very well. We weren't Avengers at the same time. The Black Widow, I know, I guess I mean."
red_room: (Wiping red away)

[personal profile] red_room 2016-10-23 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fair enough."

Natasha isn't much for long winded conversation, being more the type to listen to a group and speak up only when she has something worth saying or a quip worth dishing out. Usually to Clint or Rogers. But Barton's not here now, and the only Rogers that is here doesn't know about her. She's gone to lengths to keep it that way, too.

"Sorry if she's kind of a bitch. Occupational hazard." It's a weak attempt at humor, but an attempt nonetheless. Natasha certainly isn't smiling while he helps himself to that last pastelito. "Half as good as your family's after all?"

Miles does at least smile at the joke, and since the mask is pulled up to his nose, you can actually tell that he is smiling. In between bites of food that is.

"I think it's one of those things where everybody thinks their nana makes the best version." He says with a thoughtful tilt of his head. That said, by all indications, he seems to be enjoying the pastaleto.

"Tell you what, if you let me know where to find you around here, I'll bring you some leftovers the next time we have them at home. Then we'll be even."

"I wouldn't know, but it follows what Barton always is going on about."

She puts a lot of stock into what Clint thinks about things. He's probably the closest thing to a best friend Natasha has ever had. Not that she'd ever call him that. Admitting attachments is the first step in having them used against you in this line of work.

"I'll give you my burner phone's number."

She slides it across, written on a napkin with the same care she had handed over the pastry.

"You're alright, Miles." Is she smiling? Perish the thought. She most certainly isn't just barely turning up the corners of her mouth at this kid.

[personal profile] ikicklotsafaces 2016-10-26 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Miles finishes scarfing down his morning snack and then, finds an un-phone-numbered napkin to wipe off his face and hands. When that's all set, he folds up the number neatly and slides it into a hidden pocket in his costume. The one that holds his phone, in fact, so he remembers to program the number in later.

"Hey, thanks for sharing with me, Ms. Romanov." Miles points out. "You didn't have to, but I'm happy that you did."
