1st Annual Halloween Block Party!

Perhaps it's the leaves of fiery golds and oranges drifting on the breeze, or the sight of various hard squash being mangled into festive ornaments, or even still the bowls of candy left out simply everywhere in the Nexus that signifies the import of today. Regardless of when you take heed, Halloween has come to the Nexus.
Neat little handmade signs and fliers of all kinds lead to a particularly festive sectioned off block with the Crossroads Cafe at the center. The brick building has more than its fair share of decorations hung from every available windowsill and door. Hanging skeletons, jolly Jack-O-Lanterns, orange and black streamers cascading down and blowing to and fro in the crisp breeze.
The doors are propped open just waiting to beckon you inside. What are you waiting for?
((See the OOC post if you have any questions! Backtagging and threadhopping are fine. Come on in and have a blast :D ))

She twirls to the music, laughing.
TFW you start tagging on the wrong account and then roll with it
Jim has been so busy around the Nexus he's not seen much of Iphi lately. He's got a flute of champagne in hand when he approaches, a charming smile on his face as he steps confidently onto the dance floor and moves in front of her.
"It's been some time. You're looking quite well. And well dressed for the occasion."
lol, excellent
"Thank you--I actually feel a little strange dressed up this way, but I suppose it's right for the occasion!"
She looks around at all the other people, all of them dressed up.
"It's such a festive holiday. We should have done this back home."

He grins and sets his drink down on a nearby table before returning to Iphi and holding out a hand.
"Would you like a dance, your fluffiness?"
no subject
She grins at Jim and holds out her hand. He has a way of making her feel comfortable in this ridiculous outfit, she thinks.
no subject
"There we go, you're pretty good at this, aren't you?" He'd say as much whether she was or wasn't good at it, but if she's keeping up with him he'll grin wider and pick up the pace a bit.
no subject
She's never waltzed, but Iphigenia's used to dancing--there was a lot of it back home, and the Greeks were known for their appreciation of physical skill and nimbleness. So she knows that she should follow his lead, and soon enough, she's grinning back at him, moving fluidly across the dance floor.
"I'm trying!" she says with a laugh, amused by the image of them together. She feels silly, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. "You're the one who's good at this, I think."
no subject
Jim is more practiced than he is talented in dancing, though that isn't to say he isn't capable of being graceful.
"How do people dance from your home? You can show me and I can be the novice next."
no subject
"And back home? Some of our dancers are practically acrobats," she says with a grin. "I can't move like that, but when I was small, I would try to mimic them. It was probably amusing for anyone watching."
She's trying to think how she could show him.
"I can try, perhaps. I know a few simple moves."
no subject
It gives them both a chance to take a drink if they'd like. And Jim very much would like that.
"Sure. I'm game to learn something new."
no subject
"I will warn you, I may make both of us look like fools," she replies, clearly amused. "I hope that's all right."
no subject
Jim gestures down at his shirt and pants before giving the princess a wide smile.
"I already look enough of a fool. No one will notice."
no subject
She's a little breathless herself, and it would be nice to sit down, if even for a few minutes.
no subject
He nods over to the chairs at the edge of the dance floor.

When he does manage to saunter back to her chair he offers out the glass with a smile.
"Wine for the lady."
no subject
"Thank you," she says, taking the glass. "Are you enjoying yourself?"
Because she is. It's a fun party, even if the costume part is a little strange.

Jim spins a chair around and takes a seat before he sips at his beer and stares out across the block at the people gathered to celebrate together.
"It sure is something, isn't it? Everyone coming together like this?"
no subject
"It really is," she agrees. "It's good to see."
It makes her miss home, in a way. There were always feasts and such going on. Iphigenia takes a sip of her wine, remembering.
"We should have more gatherings like this." So she can get even more nostalgic. Sure.
no subject
Jim nods out across the dance floor and sips at his beer for a moment. He'd have to make an effort to throw a get together for his crew sometime for one of these holidays. They deserved it for all their hard work.
"Someone's gotta run them though. Heh, seems like a lot of work to do routinely."
no subject
She takes a sip of her wine and frowns.
"I'm sorry, I probably sound spoiled to you."
no subject
No one's problems are any less legitimate just because the literal world isn't actually ending. Everyone's got things they're dealing with and none of it is easy. Jim's had to learn that the hard way himself.
"But I think it'd be nice if we all got together like this again."
no subject
She watches some people dancing, and her thoughtful expression turns into a smile.
"Come, let's dance!" Iphigenia turns to Jim, motioning for him to get up. "I have to show you, remember?"
no subject
Jim sets his beer down on the table and gets up so that he can offer her his arm and lead her back to the floor properly.
"You have my undivided attention, Princess. Teach me how your people dance."
no subject
Once they're out on the dance floor, she frowns.
"This would work better if we had veils, truthfully--at least, if I did," she says. "But no matter."
Thankfully, a song with a strong beat comes on. How handy!
She begins by starting to skip around, lightly--it doesn't look like a child doing though; it's much more graceful than that.
"This is the easiest one I know," she says. "You have to move your feet lightly, barely touching the floor, and then spin about."
She probably looks silly, she thinks, doing this in a costume, but it's too late to turn back now, she figures.
