Wisdom begins in Wonder

She headed toward what looked to be a large building akin to something from back home, It was both an impressive and slightly comforting sight.
She scanned the area with her eyes, ears and other senses. Trying to make sure she was in the right place as she headed toward the stone steps. As well as keeping her eyes open for any hint or sign of her missing friend or any one who might know more about the nexus or other things of necessity and importance. Another part of her wondered if they might have a snack bar or vending machine that took the money she had on her as her tummy rumbled softly as she neared the large doors.

She wondered if there were a place for missing posters, and looked around for one as she cautiously looked around after poking her head in, looking for  a desk of some sort. "Ahem, excuse me, but I was wondering if there was a form or something to apply for a library card? " She half asks a bit rambly and nervous all of a sudden. She wasn't exactly sure why but she was worried for Sherlock and was in need of some information and uncertain about where and when to get things in this ever shifting environment.

Not having any luck herself, she turns her attention to Ash, watching the woman look for clues. "You're a good friend," she says quietly. She hopes that she finds Sherlock, and moreover, that he appreciates all the sleuthing she did to find him.

Maine... Maine. She has heard of it before, she thinks. "That's a state in... the United States? On Earth?" She smiles apologetically. "I'm not from Earth so my geography is a little shaky."

Pleased that she got it right, it takes her a moment to process Ash's question. "The Enterprise?" she repeats, before laughing a little, as if flattered. "No... no. I am on a spaceship, though, called The Chiron. I was born on Leonis, one of the twelve colonies."

There is a lot of sadness packed into that last sentence, but she tries not to let it show. She's only just met Ash, she does not need to weigh her down with a sob story. "It's funny you mention the Enterprise, there's a possibility that I'll be living in that universe soon enough."

But enough about her. "What's Maine like?"

"It's a well-known starship here, too," she agrees. "Have you met Captain Kirk? There's, um... at least two of them who visit the Nexus. They're both very nice. I'm a-- that is, humans are refugees, where I'm from. We have nowhere to live except our ships. One of the Kirks offered to relocate us..." She rubs her arm self-consciously. "Just have to work up the nerve to tell someone in charge about the Nexus..."

Her description of Maine is simple, but picturesque. "It sounds beautiful," she says softly. "I think I'd like to live on Earth someday... do you think Maine would be a nice place to live?"

"I hope you get the chance to meet him, then." She'd be grateful of Ash's role during the Khan invasion, if she knew. Maybe some day they can trade war stories.

"Oh..." She blushes a little at the offer, grateful but still terribly self-conscious. "I haven't quite gotten that far... um. If you needed to convince someone that the Nexus was real, how would you go about doing that? Short of just bringing them here."

Her elaboration on Maine gets a small eyebrow raise. When would a seaside fishing village not be peaceful? "What sorts of characters?" she asks innocently.
chiron_survivor: (not sure about that)

"Yeah, brainstorming." Her smile turns a shade guilty. She has been doing her research, reading books on engines that warp through space, taking pictures of the Nexus so she has some photographic evidence... but she knows, on some level, that she's procrastinating, that all the research in the world is not going to prepare her for the moment she needs to talk to someone in charge about it.

"It's, um... I've been keeping the Nexus a secret for so long." She smiles nervously. "It's a little intimidating to finally share that with someone."

Adia has no idea that Ash meant characters "literally". She still doesn't, giving the other woman a blank look. "Um... I've heard of dwarfs..." Although something about that phrase triggers a memory, a book she might have looked through when trying to acquaint herself with Earth mythology. "Is that a... a fairy tale?"

Adia lets out a little sigh of relief. It feels good to admit that. "We don't have magic, or aliens, or a quarter of the things the Nexus does. I don't want to scare anyone." She thinks about the Khan invasion a moment and shivers. "Or cause more problems than I solve."

Yet, despite not being familiar with magic or Earth fairy tales, she's quick to catch on to what Ash is implying. "They're real where you are from?" she asks curiously.

"It was," she confirms with a nod. She's come a long way in the past three years, but she's not embarrassed by her initial fear and confusion. "I was dealing with a lot on my world, too... the Nexus, as much as it surprised me, was still a respite from everything that had happened."

She didn't know how dangerous the Nexus could be back then, though. The ignorance might have worked in her favor. She more than understands Ash's desire to protect her home. It sheds new light on why it's taken so long for her to talk about it.

"Ah, well, that won't matter much to me," she says reassuringly. "I'm barely familiar with those stories as is." She watches what looks to her as something poking up from under Ash's hood, and tilts her head thoughtfully. "Does that mean you're from a fairy tale, too?"
chiron_survivor: (not sure about that)

"This place is good for that," she agrees. She pauses and adds with a wry smile. "Sometimes."

She peers at Ash, trying to understand the source of her sadness. There's no way that Adia would ever want to be the subject of a fairy tale or myth. That would mean countless strangers knowing her personal story, or at least one version of it. But she supposes that if everyone around you has some fame attached to their name, it can feel like you are being left out. "Oh. But, um..." She bites her lip, not sure how to ask politely. "Do you have magic powers? Or... fairy powers, I guess? It seems like most of those stories involve a lot of magic..."

"Oh, sorry if I misspoke," she says quickly, after Ash explains that her lineage does not include fairy blood. She notices the nose twitch and hopes she didn't offend her, either. More than one person has explained to her how dangerous fairies could be, playing by rules that did not often align with human morals. "We don't have any stories or myths of fairies, where I'm from. I'm still, um, learning what that term encompasses..."

She can certainly use a good warning about its price. She's gotten a little complacent in her views of magic. She has friends who use it without any sort of problem.

It's obvious she's curious about what kind of magic Ash does have, if not fairy magic, but she's not going to pry. Ash would have told her if she wanted to share right there and then. "Your world makes mine sound rather plain," she admits with a small smile. "All we have are spaceships and sentient robots. It must have been a lot easier for you to get used to the Nexus."

"No, I-- I'm getting that now. I understand." It doesn't matter what Ash's background is to her, anyway. Her only personal hang-ups are with robots, and even there, she's overcome her fears and made friends with a few of them.

"Is that right?" She hums thoughtfully. "Detective work often requires forensics... I'll keep an eye out for him when I'm in the science section, then. I'll let you know if anything seems out of place."

As for holodecks, she shakes her head. "No, we don't unfortunately." She grins a little. "We have an entertainment room. I play a lot of foosball."
