Time for a big ol' Nexus Block party
On a sleepy summer morning a wonderful smell begins to waft throughout the Nexus. For those familiar with this place there can only be one explanation but for those new faces to the nexus this may be a strange thing: seeing so many people flocking toward the sweet and savory scents perfuming the Nexus.
There are a few tables set out this morning in the Plaza in front of a small cafe loaded with several carafes of coffee, a myriad of pastries from more than a few different worlds and cultures, and a large pan of eggs and sausage kept warm over a chafing dish. On either end of the table are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery as well as a few welcome pamphlets in a small container. Along the front of the tables is a hand made banner.
Meet and Greet
Manning the tables is Katsuya Suou, red apron on and a cup of coffee in hand. He looks far too cheerful for how early in the morning it is. It's always satisfying to put one of these on and see the throngs of different people stuck in line together to get their food and find a place to sit among the tables and couches nearby.
"Right then, is anyone hungry? I've got more than enough here for everyone so please mingle among yourselves or feel free to ask me anything you'd like."
((OOC: This thread is ALL ABOUT threadjacking and hopping. I encourage folks to tag on each other's comments and mingle rather than to reply only to me. This is a huge opportunity to have your characters interact with people they wouldn't have talked to before. Branch out! Meet new people! Scheme new schemes! Steal the last chocolate croissant!))

Palmer
He speaks with his mouth full, never great with manners. "Gotta say, these are delicious." He swallows, a little embarrassed. "Anythin' in particular any of you think I should try?" He figures asking around for advice wouldn't hurt, and he feels up for a friendly chat anyway, even if he isn't used to large groups of people.

"If you're a fan of fruit I recommend the danish, for sweets, the chocolate or almost stuffed croissants, and if savory is more to your taste I have a cheddar and onion scone just over here."
no subject
"Thanks for the warm welcome," he says to the stranger before shoving it into his mouth. "My, uh, compliments to the chef. Are there any drinks?"
no subject
Then again, it's also lead to some of the more fateful and less ideal meetings before but not everything is perfect.
"Thank you. I've been preparing for this for a while." He gestures over to a drinks cart nearby. "We have coffee, tea, and fresh water just over there. Are you new to the Nexus? What sort of world are you from?"
no subject
He's happier here. At least at the Nexus nothing is trying to eat him, and it's warmer than Antarctica. He could stay a while - he figures the guys can take care of themselves.
He pours out a cup of coffee, taking a sip. "I'm James Palmer. Crack mechanic. Pleased to meet you."
no subject
A job in Antarctica? That certainly grabs the officer's attention. It sounds like a fascinating (and freezing) place. He wasn't aware people could just go there. It's not really done on his world so far as he knows.
"Katsuya Suou. I run the cafe here. I don't suppose espresso machines fall within your purview to fix though." There's a hint of a teasing smile on his face then. "It's good to meet you. Do you prefer Palmer or James?"
no subject
He scratches the underside of his chin, considering Katsuya's comment. "Hmm...expresso machines...yeah, I could fix one if you need my help. I can fix pretty much anything. I'll even do it free of charge, 'cause you've been nice to me."
He is in a good mood, and he figures helping out would be the right thing to do.

It's a boon to know someone who has a gift for fixing machines. He's certain Radio will find this newcomer a friend as well, and it always helps to have the business mind of the company on board with an idea.
"Will you be coming to and from the Nexus, or is this a place you're looking to stay if you don't mind me asking?"
no subject
Palmer likes the idea of working for pay here. Hey, he could even set up a cozy shop as a mechanic here and make some money.
"Figure I'll be lookin' to stay. The Nexus is a nicer place than where I came from. Nicer weather, to start with." He gave a small smile. "And I wouldn't mind takin' you up on that offer of yours. You need anything fixed, just give me a call and I'll see what I can do."

"The kleicha are wonderful," she tells him, pointing out the date cookies with a slender, clawed finger. Then she proceeds to choose entirely different. "But you should try as much as you can if you want to find out what you like."
no subject
He grabs one and pops it into his mouth. "Hm. Gotta say, this is pretty good. Thanks for suggestin' it."
