Time for a big ol' Nexus Block party

On a sleepy summer morning a wonderful smell begins to waft throughout the Nexus. For those familiar with this place there can only be one explanation but for those new faces to the nexus this may be a strange thing: seeing so many people flocking toward the sweet and savory scents perfuming the Nexus.

There are a few tables set out this morning in the Plaza in front of a small cafe loaded with several carafes of coffee, a myriad of pastries from more than a few different worlds and cultures, and a large pan of eggs and sausage kept warm over a chafing dish. On either end of the table are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery as well as a few welcome pamphlets in a small container. Along the front of the tables is a hand made banner.

Meet and Greet

Manning the tables is Katsuya Suou, red apron on and a cup of coffee in hand. He looks far too cheerful for how early in the morning it is. It's always satisfying to put one of these on and see the throngs of different people stuck in line together to get their food and find a place to sit among the tables and couches nearby.

"Right then, is anyone hungry? I've got more than enough here for everyone so please mingle among yourselves or feel free to ask me anything you'd like."

There is a large dragon staring at the tables. Or, there WAS a large dragon, but now there's this youth standing in their place, looking over what's being offered for food.

Well, that's an inconvenient--oh! Much better. Katsuya can totally handle a human sized creature or person much more easily. He holds up a plate of croissants toward him.

"Hungry?"

Viatorus Durant

It's good to get out every now and then, and Viatorus didn't have much of a choice when Runa spied Katsuya's spread. So, while his fiancée gushes over the selection of treats, he takes a cup of tea to a corner out of the way. Here, he takes out a book to do some sketching while he enjoys the warm weather, the tea, the sights, smells... and keeps an eye out for familiar faces.

"What kind of tea is this?"

Jim's been trying to branch out from just his usual Black Coffee, All the Time kind of habits. Not so much for his own sake, but to try and find something Not Coffee for his fiance to enjoy. V's about his only friend though who doesn't also survive on The Bean aside from Spock, but the Vulcan pretty much only drinks that one herbal tea he likes so much.

It's a wonder she doesn't scream with delight. She certainly looks like she wants to. As soon as she spots the pastries she bounds over to fuss over them. Her hands are carefully kept away, but it's clear she's eager to touch and examine and adore them all.

"These are wonderful! They look so good! They smell so good! Ahh! But they're all perfect!"

This way and that a young lady flits between the tables all eager smiles and excitement. Katsuya sets down his plate of pastelitos and offers the young lady an empty plate.

"Anything in particular you want to try?"

Grizz and Panda (maybe Ice Bear)

Katsuya is not stuck manning this shindig alone! He's got the assistance of two bears that seem related to Ice Bear: a large Grizzy and Panda Bear, aptly named Grizz and Panda. The brown bear is helping set up tables and chairs, so the group of people have places to sit, but he's also out interacting with customers, getting them excited.

"Hey, how's it going pal? If you want some recommendations, I'm your bear!" Don't worry, Grizz is overly friendly and easy to approach.

If you're already seated and enjoying your breakfast, Panda is pushing a cart around with coffee, tea or other drinks. There's also a few baked goods in case you missed them while going through the line.

"O-oh...Would you like something to drink?" In comparison, Panda is definitely the shy one, but he's happy to be here helping.

If you want the elusive Ice Bear, he's manning the morning alcohol bar near the end of the food line, but it seems like the polar bear is aloof. Almost not here, mentally speaking...Your character might have to specifically ask for his time.

A young man stands at the fringe of this gathering with his hood pulled up and hands shoved into his pockets. He doesn't say anything the first pass through when Grizz walks by, just keeps his head down.

Though when Panda comes by with drinks and a quieter voice he might see a familiar face look up from the ground, even if it's a bit dirty and his hair's gotten a bit long.

"Drrrrink, yeah. That...good."

Blaze-37 and Ghost

An event like this shouldn't need any real security. Nevertheless, there's a robot in plate armor leaning against the cafe wall, out of the way while she keeps an eye on the crowd. This is a friendly sort of gathering, so she's dressed down accordingly - which is to say she's only visibly carrying a sidearm at her hip, and she's left her helmet off. Her arms are folded comfortably, her posture relaxed, but she's ready to spring into action if there is any trouble. She doesn't think you can take chances with any occasion round here.

Beside her floats a much smaller robot, the points of his silver shell fluttering as he keeps watch with a single blue optic. If anything, he's more alert than his partner, and unlike her he's not shy about watching any children who turn up. He's not straying far from her side, either.

For the time being, all seems well and harmless. The pair aren't here to mingle, but the bigger robot has a friendly nod for those who catch her optic, and she's willing enough to talk or lend a hand to anyone who stops by.

"Nat's got this place wired from top to bottom, keeping an eye and ear out for trouble."

Steve has a mug of coffee in hand, glancing around the plaza. He looks casual but Ghost and Blaze know him better than that. He's got his crystalline shield stashed someplace close by and his gaze doesn't stop moving despite his light hearted tones for the two bots.

"Good to see you two."

Happy Birthday, Suou Tatsuya

There might be a bit of a shortage of meat for a few minutes, for Tatsuya has come to get his fill of them with some savory pastries as well. He returned to his table, where a bag of chips labeled "All Dressed" was placed next to a Vanilla Coke can and a laptop, and his hoodie was draped over the chair as a sign that it was already taken.

One glimpse at his laptop screen reveals he's watching the "We Are The Champions: Final Live In Japan" concert video of Queen.

"Oh, shit! I fuckin' love Queen!" There's a rather intimidating gentleman peering over Tatsuya's shoulder, talking around a mouthful of bacon. "Is that the '85 tour?"

Steve Rogers

Above all else a super soldier has got to eat. Lately any gathering of lots of folks in the Nexus has been tricky and dangerous, so he's there to make sure nothing goes awry at this soiree. That's not to say he's not also going to be waiting in line like everyone else to get a plate of food to enjoy.

Once loaded up he'll find a table to settle down at but there's still a couple of places free.

After meeting the other Steve, Hunter is not really sure which one this is. But he does feel that a conversation can be held with either.

The artist has a small plate of fruit and cheese. "Can I join you?"

Iphigenia

There's a young woman passing by who happens to be very hungry. Iphigenia stops in her tracks when she sees the food, spying a delicious-looking strawberry scone, and makes a beeline for the tables.

She can be found daintily munching the scone, sitting on a nearby bench.

Hermione has a small plate of food herself, and when she spots Iphigenia, she decides to sit with the other woman.

"Hello! I hope we can actually share a conversation this time." The language-barrier LOL prevented a suitable conversation last time.

Spock Prime

Amid all the pastries and eggs and savory dishes there is also a little side cart with salad options and a fruit bowl and it is from these options the old Vulcan will take from before finding an unoccupied seat to settle in and enjoy his meal.

"Is this seat taken?"

Hermione smiles up at the familiar face. And she moves over a little, to give him room. CJ, who is sleeping in her lap, only twitches an ear in response.

"Always room for you."

Penelope

First she smells the coffee--that's a new scent to her, something she doesn't recognize from back home. Then she sees the food. Oh. Hm. She's intrigued!

Penelope is here, and she is hungry, and so she takes a plate and cutlery and goes to wait in line. Feel free to chat her up, Nexus citizens!

Penelope, why are you waiting so far back in the line? Don't you want this wonderful food now?

Marie is near the front of the line and manages to see the queen quite a ways behind her. She's frantically waving her hand and gesturing for Penelope to join her. If anyone wants to fight over this, she can just argue that Penelope is royalty. No one should care anyways. Just get up here, please...she needs a friendly face to talk with, since most people are here with friends.

Faris and Chanath

Free food and a promise of good company is an excellent lure for a K'da and his Shontin, though the dangers of such gatherings are not forgotten. A warrior must always be vigilant, and Faris' head rises up from Chanath's shoulder to visually sweep the area like a living periscope. And to get a better look at the foods being offered, of course.

Chanath absently shifts her posture to accommodate the extra weight on her shoulder, moving closer to the tables to claim a plate and load it with sausages and some fruit-filled pastries. One would certainly be forgiven for assuming they are some strange two-headed alien as Chanath offers her symbiont a sausage.

"Hi Faris! Hi Chanath!" Hunter greets the two familiar aliens with a bright smile. The artist is wearing a laid-back outfit today. Jeans and a short-sleeved shirt.

"Can I help carry a plate for you?"

Marie

Mornings are never the strong suit of some people in the Nexus and there's a red-haired woman dressed in not so casual attire, standing near the edge of the meet and greet, frantically texting someone on her phone about this sudden event. Her boyfriend need to get here asap or regret missing out on this breakfast of the century. Free breakfasts are okay. Free breakfasts from the Crossroads Cafe staff are worth dying for.

It's also worth waiting in line for Crossroads Cafe cooking, especially the delectable pastries Katsuya bakes and Ice Bear's signature pancakes, although seeing the bear act as a bartender is doubly surprising. Marie's just going to join the gathering masses of people waiting to get food, hoping it doesn't take too long to get some of that wonderful grub. She's still supposed to be getting work done, but getting food should count towards that.

What an unique outfit. Hermione really appreciates her style. She is also curious about who the other woman must be texting right now.

Jim's starting to get the hang of this whole 'sneaking off the ship after shift' thing. Not that he's bothered to change out of uniform. The starship captain makes a beeline for the coffee and pastries, though he pauses a moment to make damn sure they're LOL-free. (Get burned like that once, and you never forget it.)

Oh, sweet, fresh fruit too. He does not hesitate for one second before pocketing one of the apples. Armed with a fresh mug of coffee and an apple-cinnamon danish, Jim goes about looking for a good seat. The moment he sits down, an orange kitten leaps up into his lap, poking at the danish with one paw. You better share that, mister.

"I wish I could say I didn't expect this after my morning run, but truth of the matter is Nat and I have been working on security for this thing since last night with Katsuya's help."

Steve pulls up a chair and settles into it with a hefty plate full of eggs and sausages, as well as the apple he's currently enjoying once he's set down his food and coffee. The kneazle kitten gets a boop on the nose and a tiny bit of egg 'accidentally' nudged off his plate closer to Zunar.

"How's the ship?"

There'd better be a ton of fruit around, because Jake is gonna eat, like, five plates' worth. He's got one already heaped high, to the point where one of the oranges precariously balanced on the edge of the plate falls off and rolls away from him a little bit.

Great. "Hey, could you get that for me?"

With a flick of her wrist, the oranges float in the air before they hit the ground.

"Certainly. Do you want the rest slightly lighter?" Hermione smiles.

Hunter

Hunter has set himself up at a corner table, where he can set up an easel beside him. Today seems like a good opportunity to offer portraits for some fellow Nexusites.

There's an awfully loud drag of wood on concrete as Tina drags a chair over to Hunter's corner table so she's got a place to eat. Her own plate is piled high with baked goods of all kinds (but especially crumpets). She's got half a chocolate chip cookie shoved into her face when she notices the sign Hunter's put up.

"Oooh! Pih me!" Tina struggles to swallow her food and speak at the same time but eventually eating wins out and she does finish chewing before she tries again. "Me me pick me!"

Rhys

Miracle of miracles, eggs that aren't green! Meat that isn't skag! And are those donuts? Rhys is fucking sold.

"Oh my God, real food." Come here, sweet sugary heaven, get in my face. Who cares that the frosting is probably gonna get in the joints of his metal hand? Worth it. Still... "Anybody see where the napkins are at?"

I've been waiting for months to do this

A small hand smacks Rhys's metal one away from one of the pastries befor ehe can reach too far. Tina's barely tall enough to be seen over the high table but she glowers at a stranger getting between her and a chocolate iced donut with sprinkles on it.

"I swear on a Psycho's axe I will cut a bitch if you even THINK about takin' my sweets, boy!"

Aslan

The King of the Beasts sits by one of the tables, watching as people pass by. It is good to see people out celebrating again.

His tail twitches, as he waits patiently.

Natasha tries her damndest not to draw attention to herself most of the time. It's a force of habit as much as it is a conscious effort these days. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Though on her way back with a plate of food she sets a cereal bowl filled with water down on the ground next to the lion.

"Figured you weren't a coffee kind of cat."

Harley Quinn

There is no missing Harley Quinn at this event. She is dancing in a corner, wearing a bright pink dress, which is matched by extra pink strands in her hair today. And yes, she is enjoying her time at the event -- but after valuable lessons learned at other Nexus events she does have a few concealed weapons.

Oh Harley, hopefully you aren't feeling a sense of deja va upon seeing Jeff standing near the edge of the party, a cell phone in his hand as he glances up at the crowds of people. Given he was the masked instigator of the last event, it wouldn't make sense for him to be here so casually dressed in a pink polo and obviously looking for someone...

Is the past repeating itself? Hopefully, not.

Adia and Caspar

Wanting to show support for Katsuya's efforts, Adia and Caspar have shown up, but it will be a little while yet before either of them attempt any mingling. For now, the couple is sitting at a table near the periphery of the action. Adia is dressed for a day of research in her lab; Caspar is wearing one of his typical summer suits.

Both of them have cups of coffee and plates of food in front of them. Adia has not taken too much, not wanting to overindulge, although she might come to Ice Bear later and ask if she can bring any leftovers back to the children on Atlantis.

Caspar has even less on his plate. Every so often, he sneaks a bit of egg under the table to a small piglike creature when Adia isn't looking.

Hunter spots the couple on his way towards getting another cup of coffee. He smiles.

"Hello Adia. Caspar. Good to see you both!"

Majima Goro

Majima peers above the milling crowd -- spotting some familiar faces peppered throughout. What's so good over here, hm? Maybe a fight broke out?

No. His nostrils flare. Food. Even better. He's been keeping the purse strings tight lately, so he's not about to pass up a free meal.

In short order, he's got a pastry stuffed in his mouth, a mug of coffee in one hand, and a plate piled high with animal protein in the other.

That reporter is back. He's spent some time drunk and now he's standing here, observing. Grinning. He's got a piled high plate and there's a big red boil on his hand that he's constantly trying to hide.

Moving through people, he narrowly avoids bumping into several people as he knocks into people.

"I am - so sorry. Excuse me, I uh-Hi, how are you? Sorry. Just-"

Eventually he'll bump into one person and nearly spill his food on them with an apologetic "holy shit I'm so sorry..."

Fortunately, Cricket is between platefuls at this time. The bump into him is pretty gentle, but he's distracted by the activity around him, and he's having an off-day with his unsteady legs--his braces are on firmly, but they don't fix everything.

So, yeah. He's on his butt a second after running into the guy, whether or not food gets spilled on him. And there's a wordless little grunt of surprise and irritation, but his scowl is short-lived. You can't be but so mad at someone who apologizes.

"Mmmn," he shrugs, dusting off his hands before gathering a leg under him. "I'm a'ight. You?"

Because he knows drunk when he sees it, and has a suspicion he's seeing it now.

Swamp Thing

Alec does not want to go.

He doesn't. Really. He's worried. The green vibrates, it worms around him, it wants him to stay back and away but this is one of the few places he can go to these sorts of things. There's nothing in danger - and any plant that whines gets an angry glare. The green of the Nexus is far more encouraging and other greens of other worlds are also - reasonable. It's only his world and that gives him pause. He may not be a scientist (anymore.) but he's not stupid. Why try and divide him from his humanity?

It's his humanity that keeps him a safe avatar, a careful arbitrator of the machinations of a wild and unwieldy kingdom.

He needs it even if it feels so far away.

So there's a rumble, then another, then another, and there's a swamp thing amid the party guests. A few people stare in his direction, and even when everyone backs up he pauses, waits for them to do so, before he reveals a wooden plate piled high with fruits and vegetables.

There's dragon fruit and cherries, strawberries and pumpkins and tomatoes. He's even got a few bananas piled high. Pretty much if you're looking for a fruit or veggie he's got it.

"I hope...nobody minds." talking. Talking is hard.

"My mother always said "when you go to a party, bring something.""

As much as Spock is fascinated by this being (and it is quite a lot) he does have manners borne from decades of interaction between other species. It would be more diplomatic to thank the person (man?) for the gifts brought here.

And what gifts they are! The Vulcan gestures slowly to the platter.

"Did you grow these yourself?"

For her part, Dia's not too uncommon a sight in the Nexus, truth be told. Although she's not exactly the most social, usually going too and fro for her various tasks and errands.

The event's drawn her attention, mostly to poke around and make some attempt at socializing as she does.

Delia is already a social butterfly, showing up to something like this? Is just natural, "I assume," She asks of Katsuya as she arrived, "Most of this is from Earth?"

Or some variant therein, anyway.

"Most of it yes, though I've picked up a few recipes from the locals here. A sweet old lady of some species I"m not familiar with often brings me in dried fruit and asks I make Kanali Wafers out of them."

The officer points to a plate of flat rolled pastries that smell sugary and rich of some kind of fruit. A type of date perhaps?

"If there's ever anything you'd like me to try and make, you need only ask. And perhaps help me locate the ingredients depending on if it's something I've heard of before."

She sniffs the air and bookmarks her book before slipping it into her backpack and heads toward the smell and sounds of the gathering. Scanning the area she heads over into the line. She had been wondering where folks had gotten too.
